I'm pretty pleased this thread hasn't been made yet, since it highlights the simple fact that no one fucking cares about that second-rate league, but the NHL canceled its season. First time ever a pro sports league has axed an entire season. Personally, I'm glad the lousy NHL has to bear the burden.February 17, 2005 at 03:34AM View BBCode
I've always enjoyed hockey (especially UAA-go Seawolves) but this is how I feel:February 17, 2005 at 04:23AM View BBCode

To me, hockey isn't really anything more than something to watch when nothing else is on or an excuse to have a fantasy team. I won't be happy if the NHL falls through, then soccer might have a chance to gain popularity. And we can't allow that can we?February 17, 2005 at 05:06AM View BBCode
how about some hockey modificationsFebruary 17, 2005 at 03:42PM View BBCode

No theres no chance of that. Only kids like soccer and there parents are forced to suffer it because of them. Make no mistake soccer is a joke and always will be until they stop selling their best players to European teams and until they stop letting their player miss many games to play in some meaningless exhibition games call the World Cup during their season.

I miss hockey. It's a great game.February 17, 2005 at 04:20PM View BBCode
No, I dont blame the players, I only meant to point out that they call it Major League Soccer and it is nothing more than a minor league for European teams. An yes I would say it is a burden if you are a major league to allow your best players to miss games during the season. It would certainly incense me if I bought season tickets to MLS thinking the team had a star player or two and then they were gone for much of the season for World Cup. They also miss games for the tryouts too.February 17, 2005 at 08:22PM View BBCode
Sports talk radio in NY had an interview with a reporter from Calgary who felt that it would not be one but two seasons lost and that the deal the players would eventually get would be worse than the one they turned down yesterday!:puzzled:February 17, 2005 at 10:13PM View BBCode
if the NHL doesn't start on time next year, consider it done. Most owners were operating in the red already and are now losing more $ with noting coming in. I say a deal is done by May and they spend the rest of the time revamping things to make it more marketableFebruary 17, 2005 at 10:22PM View BBCode
No offense to you YAS but this is how I feel about hockey.February 18, 2005 at 02:32AM View BBCode
If they don't play hockey till December or January of 2006, then the NHL will be in serious trouble in certain venues. Bettman miscalculated the ability of the game to attract a following in places where kids don't play hockey.February 18, 2005 at 02:37AM View BBCode
Dallas fell in love with the Stars when they won the cup in 99. If the Stars go into a long period of non competition the organization will still survive. We have had hockey rinks pop up all over the place in the last few years and a lot of high schools in the area have hockey teams. The only way the NHL will fail in Dallas is if another season is lostFebruary 18, 2005 at 02:40AM View BBCode
I can see the LA Kings folding since I dont think they sell out hardly any of their home games. But the San Jose Sharks have a deeply devoted fan base and they sell out most of their home games if not all of them. Also Anaheim is probably safe since they made the finals a few years back and picked up a lot of followersFebruary 18, 2005 at 03:13AM View BBCode
Anaheim has a weak fan base in an oversaturated market. In addition to the Kings, Lakers, and Clippers you've got all the other stuff going on in LA. I don't think the Mighty Ducks are safe. They were the latest novelty when they went to the finals a few years back, but if any city in America defines our "what have you done for me lately" culture, it's LA.February 19, 2005 at 04:33AM View BBCode

I'm a hockey fan. I am disappointed that the 2004-05 season has been lost. BUT...it's dead and gone. True hockey fans don't want it back at this point. To try and play some goofy 28-game "exhibition" season would just make a further travesty of the debacle that is the last six months.February 19, 2005 at 08:22PM View BBCode
I don't think playing a short hockey season would be a bad idea. There are many people (myself included) who only like hockey for it's postseason. So maybe adapting a 41 game season (half the normal length) wouldn't be a bad idea (the NBA could also look into doing this).February 19, 2005 at 08:32PM View BBCode

I don't think NBA should start until April. Just have the playoffs and forget the regular season.February 19, 2005 at 08:52PM View BBCode

That's sort of funny (sad-funny, not haha-funny), because it terms of aerobic fitness, hockey and soccer are probably the two most demanding team sports out there.Pages: 1 2
