New Page - Organizational Depth Chart

March 02, 2004 at 10:12PM View BBCode

Thanks to MooVoLong for working on this. We added a new page which is basically your entire organization at a glance ( majors and minor leagues). Its called Team Depth Chart and you can see it from the roster pages, or underneath manager.

Let us know what you think.

Looks very, very nice. I like how it shows what guys are playing vs. lefties and righties. Nice job guys :)

Alright, one thing: for the bar that says 'SP', 'RP', '1B' etc... it would be easier on the eye if the text was moved over to the left side of the page, rather then the center. Or, maybe if it was both above the major leagues and minor league columns.

Oh - wanted to ask about the name of this. Does the name make sense? Depth Chart?

I agree with andrew about "SP", "RP", "1B", et cetera. It is a bit of an eyesore now. I like putting it above both minor and major league players if possible

It actually looked better in an earlier version, but we did some moving around so we could fit Health in on the page.

I don't think you could put it above Major/Minor - it wouldn't make sense there.

It is a bit of an eye-sore though.

Really fantastic addition. I love the tags that arise when you place the cursor over the 'L' & 'R' of position players, showing their spot in the batting order. Clever!

I notice one thing that may cause (minor!) annoyance, which is that when you click on a player to get his card from the Depth Chart, it fills the screen (replaces the Depth Chart) as opposed to summoning a new screen, meaning that if you're in the habit of closing the window of a player's card (as I am used to doing) that you will close out SimD entirely as opposed to returning to the Depth Chart. Small but noteworthy.

I love this feature: keep up the great work!

This is a wonderful and unlooked for improvement.

Very solid.

In the earlier version we had SP, RP, C, etc in a column along the left side. There might still be enough room to do it like that and include health. I guess we're shooting for making it look good on minimum 800x600 screens? I agree the thick blue bars look kind of weird...would a lighter shade of blue help? Or splitting it so each column (major and minor) has its own position bars?

On the player cards, I'm so used to opening cards in a tab in Mozilla that I completely forgot that they usually open in a new window! That could be fixed easily, I think.

This is a very good idea. There should not be a space issue to fix this. Just make the Position title ('SP','RP','1B',etc) 2 columns like the "Major" and "Minor" title above it. The 2 columns would have the Position on both sides:

Majors......Minors
SP............SP

a couple technical things. It's not under the manager drop down, and I think it should be. Also, when you're on that page and you click a player, it should open in a new window, currently it does not do that.

Also for the long bars that have the position, yeah, they're kind of annoying. I think it might just be a color thing. How about something like this:

excellent work, really good...I agree with the minor complaints, but all in all nothing major to worry about. Nice addition!:D

What would really make this nifty, since the majors and minors are on one screen here, is to add checkboxes next to all the players; the major leaguers' checkboxes would represent "Demote" and the minor leaguers' checkboxes would be "Promote".

DeVeau's scheme for the position bars looks good. Better than the current bars

That is exactly what I was thinking. It would be a perfect place to put it.

I also think DeVeau's set up would be an improvement over what we have currently.

Another idea I had for improvement to this page... Would it be possible to size the chart so that the "Player" column is only as wide as the largest name on the team?

I just had an injury in the Short Term Beta League and it occurred to me that it would also be neat to have the injury status appear on the depth chart.

Truly .. Truly Awesome.

Agree with the ideas on injury status and ability to "promte - demote" from this page... would absolutely be a better tool for moving players because the information is more logically (visually) aligned for decision making...

Tom - what's the Hex color code for that green? I think Injuries can be added rather easily. Promote/Demote might take some work - but we'll look to add that sometime in the future. MooVolong - if you want to look into that, I can show you some code for that. I'll also make it so the links are popups.
