Congrats to the Rollers and (yawn) the Bums. Should be another good series.

Congrats to KC and the Evil Empire. :D
I think the next few seasons will be critical to see if teams that have gone with a rebuilding strategy can compete.

Bums looking for revenge
October 14, 2002 at 04:08PM View BBCode
This World Series is the second between the Steamrollers and the boys from Brooklyn. Back in 1954, Kansas City came back after trailing 3 games to 1 to hand the Bums their only World Series loss.
Unfortunately (for me, anyway), KC took game 1 of the series. Bums' starter Razor Peterson pitched 6 scoreless innings and gave Brooklyn the lead with a leadoff homer in the 3rd.
KC was able to get to Brooklyn setup man Jocko Flynn -- MVP Ray Aesop knocked in Frank Howard in the 7th to tie the game, and catcher Emil Finlayson knocked out a game winning 2 run homer in the 8th. Michael Belliard picked up the win in relief of Red LeJeune; Footsie Richardson got the save.
Congrats to KC in game one -- but I'm confident my Bums will come back to take the series. Good luck, hcboomer.

I just realized that Ray Aesop won the triple crown. Is this the first one?

Actually, it looks like he won it in 1954 as well. That is an impressive offensive season. WOW!!!! The boy can play.

Bums even the series
October 14, 2002 at 06:41PM View BBCode
Powered by home runs off the bats of Brian Luce, Lena Felix and Roy Bravo, the Bums knocked out Cy Young winner Phil Irvin in the 6th en route to a 6-4 victory to even the World Series at one game apiece. Sam Iott got the win and Frank Lubratich picked up the save.
Game 3 features Cy Young runner-up Mike Matthewson (28-2, 1.30 ERA) going for the Bums versus KC's Jeff McNeely (19-10, 2.28 ERA).

Does anyone else find it ironic that both the No. 2 and No. 5 hitters for both teams are ex-Chicago Gangstas/Untouchables?

I think the next few seasons will be critical to see if teams that have gone with a rebuilding strategy can compete.
I think the Gearheads are poised to break out next year, if I can keep my offensive players from retiring. I should have done much better this year, but my bats were uncharacteristically quiet. I don't have any real superstars coming, but I have been nurturing some talent, and I do think the Gearheads of 1957 could be the Angels of 2002... :)

I was looking at your team and I was surprised that you finished in the basement. Might have just been a fluke year.
The Washington Peace Keepers are ready to shine in 1957. I have an awesome pitching staff coming back and one of the best young outfields in the game. Add them with all-star regulars Dave Mueller and Ubaldo Shulz, speedy lead off man Al Harris, solid backstop Pooh Bailey (coming off an all-star season), and the rest of the White House Gang, and it could be time for Washington to return to prominence ..... or get their for the first time.

Yeah, Chris you've got a decent lineup vs. R, and stellar one vs. L, even though it probably doesn't get too much playing time, but it seems that Blaine Pence
really had an off year.
Still you've got a bright future, especially with Rocket and Ireland, and I look foreward to meeting you for the Championship in few seasons.;)

Jeff McNeely dominated game three, pitching a 5-hit, complete game shutout to put KC up 2 games to 1. Home runs by Ray Aesop, Joe Riley and Steve Keatley provided the offense, as the Steamrollers went on to a 6-0 victory.

Pence pitched okay, but never got the offense to back him up. I'd play five games and score 0, 1, 0, 2, and 15 runs, so I'd put 18 runs up in 5 games and win only one. If I could even out that offense a bit...
The future looks bright for the pitching staff. I'm hoping Harry Libran picks up enough endurance in the off-season to make him a starter... there's also the suprising Roy Abbott, a C- pitcher cast off by the Untouchables who went 3-3 in 11 starts with a 4.95 ERA... not bad for a waiver wire pitcher! Between Rocket Gibraltar and Pete Ireland, both solid B's under 20 years old, I have some awesome pitching coming up over the next few years...
Unfortunately, I traded away a lot of my position playing prospects for pitchers, so most of my offense is veteran and aging fast. Wally McGee, Scott Liperti, Bancroft Baracus, Lee Jckson, Andres Isales, Bill Hoskins, Marty Astroth... that's most of my starting lineup, and all 33 years old or older...
So if I'm going to contend, it needs to be now, because in two or three seasons, that starting lineup is going to start to degrade or retire, and I'm rebuilding again...

I like many of the rebuilding teams are pumped for next season. If I ever can develope an offense to back up what I believe is the top 1-4 pitching staff in the league and if I can get a okay bullpen I think I can go places in a few years.
By the way congates to the Bums and Rollers.

Tragedy in Brooklyn
October 15, 2002 at 11:20AM View BBCode
A construction crew driving steamrollers ran over a pack of sleeping bums yesterday, totally annihilating the vagrants.
In game 4 of the World Series, the KC Steamrollers scored in each of the first 4 innings to open up a 9-0 lead, then cruised home to a 9-2 victory and a 3 games to 1 advantage in the series.
Pud Galvin got the complete game victory, and the Steamrollers' offense was led by Earl Kerr (2 HR, 4 RBI) and Ray Aesop (2 for 5, HR, 2 runs, 3 RBI).
KC tries to wrap up the series today with Cy Young winner Phil Irvin on the mound. Sam Iott, who beat Irvin in game 2, tries to extend the Bums' season.

My mistake -- game 5 featured the Steamrollers' Red LeJeune vs. the Bums' Razor Peterson in a rematch of game 1. Both pitchers were masterful in the opener, although neither was involved in the decision. LeJeune gave up 1 run over 7 innings and Peterson pitched a shutout through 6 (and even hit a home run) before giving way to the bullpen.
Well, it was the same story in game 5 -- both pitchers were great but neither factored into the decision. A home run by Ray Sellers and an RBI double by Earl Kerr gave KC a 2-0 lead. A Clint McCord homer in the 4th brought Brooklyn within 1. Peterson left the game after allowing 2 runs over 7 innings and LeJeune only allowed the one run before leaving after 6 innings.
After 2 innings of perfect relief by Michael Belliard, the Steamrollers called on closer Paul McCabe in the 9th to hold on to the 2-1 lead and clinch the series. With their season on the line, the Bums came through. After a leadoff walk to Lena Felix and a double by Clint McCord, 2B Lefty Hamilton stepped to the plate and blasted a walk-off HR to send the series back to KC.
Game 6 will feature the previously mentioned matchup of Irvin vs. Iott. Go Bums!

Congratulations to KC

Game 6 featured brilliant pitching by both squads. KC allowed 1 run on 5 hits -- the only run a Lena Felix HR. Brooklyn only allowed 4 hits -- unfortunately 2 of them were HRs by Ray Aesop and Ted Reisling.
Irvin got the win and McCabe got the save. Iott was the hard-luck loser as the Steamrollers win their second World Series -- this time 4 games to 2.
Congratulation, hcboomer -- you definitely have my number.

(Not sure where that came from, maybe on of the commentators in the playoffs.:D)

Congrats KC!!
Let's run the offseason. Can we have a little time between the offseason/draft and the first game? In the past, there has been no time in between. I wouldn't even mind starting the season tomorrow as it would allow for a few trades and everyone can set their lineup.

I agree with FiveToolPlayer on both counts. Congrats to KC, and slow things down for just a little bit. There should be a some time in between so that we can set up our lineup/rotation.

And could someone (probably Tyson;)) post exactly when the draft will take place and when the first game will be.
Thanks,

Congrates KC!!!
Any chance the draft could take place in the next 2 hours before I go to school/work. I figured it was worth a shot.
