trade already made?

January 03, 2003 at 04:42PM View BBCode

How will this affect trades already done during this postseason? Are they still in effect?

Good point about the trades. I made two and there was at least one other one made by two other teams.

Okay, so what exactly is happening? Is there going to be a draft? Do stats that still exist for '62 get wiped out? Is there an offseason? Is the season going to be in hyper mode? If somebody could lay it out, that would be helpful.

You are viewing the raw post code; this allows you to copy a message with BBCode formatting intact.
The only thing that will happen is that 162 games will be played. There won't be a draft. If you made any trades, you will have those players for the 1962 season.

The reason this is being done is to accumulate stats for the 1962 season. The "official" beta champions (if there is such a thing) will be the previous winners of the 62 season.

Sorry, but here's another question I just thought about now. Will minor leaguers get improvements the same way through the phantom '62 season? If so, seems like they will get some extra benefit -- not that that's a bad thing -- getting two seasons worth of improvements for one actual season.

If the improvements are instead turned off somehow -- if that's possible -- then I imagine it would make sense to toss the minor leaguers getting coaching points into the majors to get improvements that way.

That's a good point Keith. But I think that if it looks like it would be hard to turn off the improvements (since it seemed hard to do for the World Series), then it wouldn't be that bad if they just get the points all over again. At least it would be a lot less detrimental to the overall game than having a mass retirement and the loss of a year of improvement for the young Major League players.

stats

January 03, 2003 at 08:05PM View BBCode

what about the people who Do have 1962 stats? Are the previous ones going to be wiped out or will they accumulate as 1963 stats? Will there be a postseason?
Have you fully and totally given up on finding the old data or have you even tried?

On the minor-league stuff, I agree it really isn't much of a problem. Frankly I was curious only because I wondered if I should bring up my guys with coaching points and let them play a full hyper season instead. After all, since the Steamroller will remain the "official" 1962 champions, I guess I could experiment in the hyper season.

I thought of another problem. Since I deleted the guys stats records, I have to re-add the stats records for stats to accumulate. This will take a lot of time as well.

I think I would rather make a small modification to the offseason logic so that guys don't retire this year, set up the draft order, and forge onto 1963. Any objections to this?
geoffrey13

sounds easier

January 03, 2003 at 11:18PM View BBCode

So go for it! But won't you STILL have to add stats records for those players? As much as I hate to say it, maybe it'll be a better idea to gas the league and wait to start a new until some of the new changes are in place.

I think I'm losing track of the pros and cons in all of this. If we're just eliminating the offseason and going on to '63, that makes perfect sense if those retirements can be prevented. If we're running the offseason without retirements, then I guess the only real problem would be a steeper decline for those plus 33 guys who don't have any stats? Seems like most all the guys who would still be young enough to improve still have their '62 stats.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems like the easiest way to proceed is simply to bag the offseason and move on to '63 -- that way no one retires and you don't have any weird skews in improvements or declines (everyone is just delayed a year). Not perfect, of course, but seems the only reasonable way to go at this point.

I agree that maybe it would just be better to start a new league. I wanted to see how Brad's children did but I think it's safe to say that we would have become a powerhouse. If that's easier, just do it.

Whoa, some strange stuff happening over there on the standings page. Something tells me we're witnessing the final death knell of Beta League II.

Depending on what happens

January 04, 2003 at 12:43AM View BBCode

I've gone ahead and set my preferences for an initial draft. I'm sure Tyson will let us know what's going on but just in case anyone isn't at a computer this weekend they might want to do the same.

Strange Stuff going on in Beta League...

January 04, 2003 at 06:33AM View BBCode

Yeah, the one guy on my Major League team that had lost stats, Has not been accumulating stats for whatever has been going on, and it seems that everyone (pitcher included), have been getting the stats from whatever is going on now, added to what they had from last season. It seems that he is playing though, but for some reason, jsut doesn't have stats. Is it possible that the stats for 1962 (A) were not deleted, and 1962 (B) got started early? (maybe a "misclick" of the mouse?) Because I thought Tyson said he would post the schedule, but maybe he just got too busy and forgot.

Sadly, it is starting to look more and more like my painful rebuilding process will not ever come to fruition.:(

Then, might I suggest that for the initial draft, we draft in order of last season's W-L? (Which would give me the #1 Draft Pick. Hmmm :))

Or, to make it more fun, myself, Bob, HC and FiveTool could vote last, with everybody else voting in reverse order of 1962's finish?

This way it would reward those who did well with an early draft pick, but since I can't imagine anybody wants to see the Bums or Goats or Steamroller or PK's draft early, this would be the most fun for everybody...

draft order

January 04, 2003 at 08:12PM View BBCode

You can jump off your high horse there Rick...just a simple random draft order should be fine for everyone...don't believe your own hype.

LOL!!!

For once Geoffrey, I agree with you...:D

LOL, I have to agree with geoffrey13 as well. It is not like there is even an advantage to having the first pick. In fact I would rather have the #16 and 17 pick then the #1 and 32 pick.

Nice to see the old Jeff we know and love hasn't gone away...

We've missed ya, bud.

Actually, I was just playing around, Jeff. As denoted by the cute little smiley face :) .

But hey, thanks for not taking this game too seriously or anything...

It's all in fun, Homey. Let's keep it that way, 'kay?

Just my 2 cents (3.4 cents Canadian).

same thing rick

that's why I had the big old cheesy grin on mine! :D
Oh yeah...I'd take you a lot more seriously if you bothered to spell my name correctly...I do realize that it's a subtle put down to do that but I don't like playing your stupid little games. It'll be fun to see you in last place once a new league gets going.:D

Question for Rick

January 05, 2003 at 04:57AM View BBCode

What Dynasty League (if any) are you in anyways? Other than Beta of course.
And if you're not in a Dynasty League why are you in the Beta league? Shouldn't it be a sort of reward for hard core paying customers? Just curious...if you are in a league that I missed my apologies.

Wow, we've really come full circle.

I think it will be very interesting to start over now that we all know a lot more about the game now. Or we all know now what Bob knew 3 months ago.

Whoever made the point about the offseason being a mess for 1963 had a valid point. We could really only move onto 1963 with no offseason, and that kind of puts everything out of whack too.

I'll clean up the mess known as the beta league next week. If anybody wants to switch NL to AL, let me know and we can mix it up a bit.

Also, if anyone has a suggestion for a replacement for DougPaz, I'm all ears. He let me know last week that his team is up for grabs.
