You're only 14, you shouldn't be watching all those violent movies.

A movie doesn't have to have guns or mobsters to be good. My vote is for 2001: A Space Odyssey.

really. i kno that but most of the best ones do. anyway my dad encourages it. me and him watch them together and last time i checked there were guns in pg-13 movies which i can get into so i must not b too young to watch them.

Duh guns can be in PG-13 movies. Dude, the Gremlins were PG-13. That probably could make you pee in your pants skier.

Anyways, my favorite movie was...heck, I ain't a movie-person :P

I'll throw out Shawshank Redemption and The Usual Suspects for consideration.

The Usual Suspects is one of my favorite movies of all time. The Godfather is the best though. Just to name a few of my favorites...

The Best Action/Drama Films

Godfather
Usual Suspects
Dog Day Afternoon(could be considered a comedy)
Scarface(The Pacino one and from what I hear the other one is a classic also)
Heat
The Gangs if New York

Funniest Movies I have seen

Office Space
Monty Python and The Holy Grail
A Fish Called Wanda
Old School
Billy Madison
Robin Hood Men in Tight

Of course I forgot so many great movies. I forgot to put in some of the best War Films. Of course Saving Private Ryan, Black Hawk Down, The Patriot...many more

Snatch, The Sandlot, Ace Ventura, Lord of the Rings (the second one), Black Hawk Down, Training Day. The Matrix Reloaded is the only movie I have seen recently that was any good.

BTW if you like watching bad movies just to laugh at them (I do), watch The League of Extraordinary Gentalmen and 2 Fast 2 Furious.

C'mon, movies suck. Movies get pumped out of Hollywood like burgers out of McDonalds. You eat bland, lifeless food long enough, you start to think it tastes good. You watch bland, lifeless movies long enough, you get the same effect. But then I suppose these movies today are okay if all you want is 90 minutes of cheesy CGI effects, hot chicks, and explosions. Anyone agree with me, or am I just a nut?

Faves:

Shawshank Redemption
American History X
Apollo 13
South Park: Bigger, Longer, and Uncut :P

Duff77 is right about some movies, for example Gigli. I havent seen it (and have no desire to see it) but it only made 5.6 million in its first week. Most of the choices on the poll are classics. The Godfather for example. On the Waterfront released in 1954 and movies werent pumped out of Hollywood then like they are now. Also all those movies have great actors in them. Al Pacino, Marlon Brando, Joe Peschi, Robert Deniro, Christopher Walken, Robert Duvall, James Caan, etc. Movies today arent bad well some of them anyway. And there are still very talented actors out there like Denzel Washington, Cuba Gooding Jr., Samuel L. Jackson, Martin Lawrence, Will Smith, Tobey Mcguire, Chris Tucker, Chris Rock, Jackie Chan, Eddie Murpy, Robin Williams, all the people listed before, etc.

Any movie that stars J-Lo and Ben Affleck and made that little amount of money. I cant imagine how bad the script was. Jennifer Lopez on her own usually brings in more money than that...and you add Affleck. It is probably one of the worst movies of all time.

Duff's right on the money. If most of the posts above have taught me anything, it's that 85% of the people out there only see what the studios tell them to see, and consider a movie that doesn't completely suck ass to be a good movie.

Lock, Stock and 2 Smoking Barrels, Donnie Darko, Bowling for Columbine, The Believer, Royal Tenebaums, Ghost Dog, American Beauty, Do The Right Thing, Bull Durham, Fight Club, Das Boot, Henry Fool, Being John Malkovich, Adaptation, Punch Drunk Love, Once Were Warriors, Cinema Paradiso, Leon: The Professional, Touch of Evil, Three Kings, Ed Wood - these are great movies with STORIES and CHARACTERS in them.

They might not have earned $600m in box office and you might not find them on your new releases shelf at Blockbuster, but try thinking outside the Hollywood marketing machine and try something a bit different for a change. The world doesn't start and end at The Matrix.

Why? Because it's the one movie from before 1999 that your local Blockbuster branch stocks?

True conversation held at my local Blockbuster two weeks ago.

Me: Do you have Citizen Kane? I can't find it anywhere here.
Them: Let me just check... no. it's not in the computer.
Me: You don't have CITIZEN KANE?
Them: It's not in the computer.
Me: But it's one of the finest movies of all time. How could you not have it and call yourselves a video store?
Them: Um... How's it spelled? Is it C-A-N-E?
Me: No. K-A-N-E.
Them: Oh! We do have it! Oh no, wait, we just sold it. Sorry.

Mind you, at the same time, they had 48 copies of Rob Schneider's The Hot Chick. 48...

ok so thats ur blockbuster. i go to hollywood video so it mayb different there. actually i belong to both my dad just switches video stores when ever we get a late fee. i love old movies. i love the classics such as the godfather and on the waterfront. my family pretty much loves the old movies schef is my witness. u were talking about watching movies that hollywood tells u to then one of ur examples of a great movie is punch drunk love, an adam sandler movie that people watch bcuz adam sandler is in it. all u have proved is that u have retarded people working at blockbuster. and that u stood and counted the number of copies of the hot chick.
