NBA Lottery

May 25, 2005 at 01:29AM View BBCode

1. Milwaukee
2. Atlanta
3. Portland
the rest pick in order of record from worst to best.

I was reading the Star-Ledger's projected top 5 picks and came across something that I thought was kind of interesting. They were:

1. Andrew Bogut- No surprise there. If he is drafted number one it would be the first time that the number one picks in both the NFL and NBA drafts came from the same school.

2. Marvin Williams- Again no surprise.

3. Chris Paul- Easily the best guard in the draft.

4. Deron Williams- Best true point guard in the draft... no surprise he is up this high.

5. Gerald Green or possibly Andrew Bynum- Green is a high school senior from Houston. 6'7" swing man very quick and athletic. Andrew Bynum is a 7 foot 300 pound high school senior. He goes to St. Joe's in Metuchen, New Jersey... actually the school is just a few blocks away from my dad's house. I was shocked that he was ranked this high. I actually saw him play in person when my school's team played his team in the county championships (we won 66-65 on a buzzerbeater jumper from the foul line) and while I was amazed with how big he was I was not overly impressed by his play. He had pretty dominant game for most people's standards, 27 points and 15 rebounds or something like that if I remember correctly. Over the course of the game my school used three different players on him: our starting center who is 6'4" 200 pounds, and two sophomores- a 6'3" 150 pound kid and a 5'10" 150 pounder (we really lacked size). So while 27 points and 15 boards is a great for most players when the matchups are so grossly in your favor you should be able to dominate those guys. The best part was when he missed 2 dunks our 5'10" "power foward" (I use that term very loosely), one of which would have clinched the game for his team. And from what I've heard from our star guard Bynum is tremendously overrated (although he has sort of a rivalry going with this kid so I'm not sure how accurate his analysis is.)

Anyway that's my rant for now....

Poor Hawks.... just can't catch a break, even with best odds. Not like many people will notice though, since nobody goes to their games:lol:

Indeed, can we just revoke Atlanta's NBA rights? Please? I can think of plenty of cities that would at least pretend to care for a season or two...

How can a team that once had Dominique Wilkins, (not the best player, but one of the most entertaining EVER) be so pitiful in attendance?

And it sucks that Milwaukee got the top pick, who the hell cares about crappy Milwaukee?

"once"

Why would anyone want to see the joke of a team that they have been sending out the last few seasons? I don't blame them.

Of course, with the attendance for Braves playoff games Atlanta sports fans are on a short rope.

Can anyone actually name 2 players currently on the Atlanta Hawks?

I'll grant you that the Hawks have earned their place as the NBA's doormat, but the empty seats during the Braves playoffs is just unforgiveable...

Some Braves fans have said in their defense that they don't sell out because the Braves always make the playoffs but rarely win. So the fans just don't see the playoffs as anything special..

And THIS is why the baseball gods will have the Braves go into a 40-year streak of last place soon...

Smith, Harrington, that rookie with the fro. They traded Walker for...Payton I guess. That's the second year in a row they traded their best player for nothing

The Blazers won't draft Chris Paul; we don't need another point guard. That said, I really have no clue who we'll go with, though ESPN is giving us Gerald Green at No. 3.

I would guess that Atlanta wants Bogut over Mavin Williams considering most of the players on their team play Williams' position already. I predict that Bogut will be a bust. He'd be great as a number ten pick but if you're drafted in the top three, you need to be an all-star, which he'll never be. Personally, I really like Chris Paul.

ESPN is saying that Bynum will be a mid to late first round pick, not top 10. Here's his scouting report for those that don't have Insider:

Draft Projection: Mid to late first round

Notes: A native of Metuchen, New Jersey. Played his high school ball at St. Joseph High School in Plainsboro. Averaged 21 ppg, 12 rpg and 5 bpg his senior season. Had 13 points and 5 rebounds in 15 minutes at the Jordan Capital Classic. Had 9 points, 5 rebounds, 1 block in 11 minutes at the McDonald's All-American game. Hasn't hired an agent, maintaining his college eligibility. Is committed to UConn.

Positives: After all the talk about how there's no size in the high school Class of 2005, how did scouts miss the gigantic Bynum? Standing a legit seven feet and weighing 300 pounds, Bynum is huge. He has long arms and is athletic and very mobile for a guy of that size. Best of all, he's not afraid to get a little dirty in the paint. Get him on an NBA weight regimen and he could be an absolute monster.

Negatives: He's still very raw offensively and really could use a few years at a top program like UConn. Weight has been an issue in the past. He could stand to lose 20 pounds. Some scouts wonder if he's the second coming of Desagana Diop.

Summary: Watch him carefully. It isn't very often that a 7-foot, 300-pound athletic kid comes around. Who knows if he'll develop into a real basketball player, but a lot of teams (including lottery teams) are interested. If he works out well, he'll rocket up the board.

Martynas Andriuskevicius is clearly the best player in the draft :D

Surprized Sean May doesn't seem to have much clout in draft projections.

He's a bit undersized, but I wouldn't mind seeing the Blazers trade down and grab him.

He's Pussy Barkley. He's short for a power forward, pretty lazy, and will tend towards fat. Real fat. If Barkley had no real drive, he'd have been Sean May. Not that I don't think he has a chance to succeed, because he does, but teams must be pretty scared off by his tendency towards fatassness.
