PATS OR E-A-G-L-E-S

January 24, 2005 at 08:53PM View BBCode

Will the winner of super bowl XXXIX be the Patriots or the Eagles? The Patriots are the early favorites, and it is uncertain if TO will play. So who is your pick?

Despite all my friends praying for the EAGLES to win, i think the Patriots will win and probably by at least 10 points, they held the #1 offense to 3 points and scored 44 aginst the best defense.

I try to like the Eagles because i live just outside of philly but i just can't. The only philly team i like is the Flyers and they aren't playing right now.

The Patriots will win, the Eagles should win.

I think pats will win it if TO doesnt play. It might be a tighter game if TO does play but i still think Pats take it.

Okay, the Patriots shut down Harrison. They shut down Wayne, Stokley, and everyone else on the Colts. They shut down Ward and Burress. I don't think TO will make that much of a difference in this game.

Pats win 31-17. Both teams have great D, but Philly can't match Brady and Co. on offense.

Ugh... The two teams I hate the most (I'm a Jets and Giants fan) are in the Super Bowl. God this is horrible. Anyway they don't even need to play this game. Pats are gonna win easy. Besides Westbrook and McNabb (who is severely limited when his receivers are dropping passes, and believe me Mitchell and Stinkston will drop passes) they have no offensive weapons. And even if Owens plays he won't be 100%, he will probably play like Randy Moss did against the Eagles two weeks ago.

I really, really want the Eagles to win. But the Pats will win. I don't think it will be as much of a blowout as some of you, though. McNabb's mobility could bring some problems for the Patriots.

TO or nor TO this should be a big win for the Patriots. Pats by 13.

And it looks like the Eagles TE is out too...

I have always liked Belichick so I am going for the Pats (even though their fans will be extra annoying with two winners :( ), and I think they will win big, but I am hoping for a good close game none the less.

I know it is not totally legal to bet on the super bowl but all my friends are Eagles fans so im going to try to take advantage of that fact and make a little dough:lol:

I think the Pats worshipping is a little out of hand at this point. True, they dominated the #1 offense and then the winningest team back to back. But both of those teams had serious weaknesses (Colts D, Steelers rookie QB + pass defense). Belichek is the best coach out there, I don't think many will question that at this point. But they are not without their weaknesses either (pass defense), and the Eagles match up well against them in my eyes.

Brady & Co won't be able to ace the Eagles pass defense like they did the Colts and Steelers - they'll need to run well to keep on top of things. They may be able to do that, but then we're talking about a ball control/field position game, and the Eagles defense is tough in all departments.

Donovan McNabb may not be Peyton Manning - but he is more versatile of a QB, a solid veteran who is playing at a high level right now. And the Eagles have been mixing up their offense alot sans TO to great effect - Westbrook lots of receiving yards, plenty of receivers chipping in, good tight end utilization, multiple RBs getting carries. Not to mention Donovan's run threat.

The Eagles are just rich in personnel all over the field - it will be a challenge to find a weakness to exploit here. They just have so many weapons that it will be up to Reid to put all the pieces together to match up on the Pats for the Super Bowl.

I don't think it's too out of line to hold the Pats as the favorites at this point, but the Eagles have as good a chance as anybody to take down NE. I would look for this game to be a hot and heavy field position battle, low score, and a big play or two could make a huge difference. If either team builds up a 2 score lead, it will be hard for the other to get back in it (probably harder for the Eagles). If it stays close til the end, we have probably the two best clutch kickers around, so no edge either way there, although Vinatieri has to get the nod as the more seasoned champion kicker.

I wouldn't be surprised to see the Eagles at least beat the spread, and in fact I'm going to go out on a limb and say they'll win outright.

If TO and Chad Lewis were healthy I would agree with you, but the Eagles passing game will be pretty weak (Westbrook is the only true threat but when he is lined up as a receiver they lose their main rushing threat). LJ Smith is more than capable of filling in for Chad Lewis but I don't think they have the passing weapons to exploit New England's weak secondary. Defensively the Eagles match up very well against the Pats. Jeremiah Trotter is a beast in the middle of the field, The Freak is a great pass rusher and Burgess played very well against the Falcons and did a good job containing Vick, 3/4 of the secondary are Pro Bowlers and the one guy back there who isn't is pretty damn good as well. Cory Simon had a down year but is still one of the best interior linemen in the league. The Eagles only hope is to shut down Dillon and force Brady to play into their strength, the secondary and come up with some turnovers. Unfortunately the Pats will win though.

Psst...they already have two winners: Pats 32, 'Lina 29, remember?

lol brain fart. But still, each extra championship will only make them that much more annoying.

Agreed. I'm pulling for the Pats just to add ammo to the "Tom Brady is better than Peyton Manning" cannon, but Boston does not deserve to live so well. If the Celtics start winning, I might just commit sepuku.
