I support a merger. I am in a 24 team league, and I like it -- lots of potential trade partners. I understand the concerns, and it's not perfect, but I think it's preferable to status quo in DDL with 5-6 bots.

First thing I want to say, don't be thrown off by the words Speed League. There are a few that are 3 games per day and it is basically run the same as a Dynasty. I'm in the Billy Williams now with is a 3 GPD Speed League. Here are some differences;
1. You pay by the month instead of the season but the price works out to the same cost for 3 GPD. You can have a Subscription automatically debit your account or you can pay manually, just like Dynasty.
2. You can pick your League Rules from the list unlike Dynasty which have some rules pre-set, ie Minor League System 5.
3. The big difference is the Off Season Runs. In a Speed League this is 1 Day. I kinda like that cause I hate the long wait to start the season after the Draft for Dynasty.
The Reggie Smith League went from Dynasty to 3 GPD Speed League. Vickiroepke, one of our former owners, is now the commissioner there and this seems to be going very well.
I myself am not a big fan of more than 3 GPD, been there and done that. Moves to fast for me. Especially if you are in more than one league. I don't know how some owners have so many teams. I've seen owners with 10 to 12 teams or more and don't know how they do it. Must be on the computer all the time.
As for 24 team league versus 16. 24 team leagues have 4 Divisions, 2 AL and 2 NL. They have one more round of Playoffs which means 8 teams make the playoffs. Don't care much either way as long as 3 GPD.
One more thing about merging with another league and making a 24 team league. The Vizquel Spahn League merged several season ago and it was a pretty good league, some really good owners, 9 GPD. I left a couple season ago and they have lost several more owners. Now looking to merge with Pie Traynor League. I couldn't take the GPD plus the Max Injury System. It was a killer.
Anyway this is my take. Hope we can do something to keep this league going. Hope this information helps.

I was going to wait a while to see what some of the comments would be since I'm new back to this league. But I do know from past experience the DDL is somewhat quite on the League Message Board so I thought I'd throw my 2 cents in now. As for the rest - I am willing to embrace change - not sure if it will be better or worse - just different. And yes, I would sure like to see a full 16 manager roster - there just aren't enough trade candidates in the Dom as is.

for what it's worth (my opinion) - anything other than a 3 GPD and I'm gone.As for the rest - I am willing to embrace change - not sure if it will be better or worse - just different. I am in a league that is merging with another THIS very offseason. We really need to do this here as there are just too many bots. Continue the discussion and we can contact admin during the season and have it ready to go for next season.

While I am fine with merging with another hurting league , I am in full agreement with those only wanting 3gpd , that would be a deal breaker for me as well.I am in a league that is merging with another THIS very offseason. Against a merger!!!!!!!. I`m in a league that merged several seasons ago. In the former league I was about ready to compete. When several new teams came in I was pushed down in the standings. I`ve been trying to build for 3-4 seasons now. Still in the lower tier. The worst problem is the draft. With more teams the talent is spread out, even in a good draft. If you have a bad draft wellll you figure it out. I`d be for a smaller league, if admin allows. Put the disbanded talent from the Bots in the draft , and go from there. This increase in draft depth might cause new managers to be attracted. Again AGAINST merger based on experience.

good points Danno - I hadn't considered the per force thinning of the draft - as most teams throw away anything past a 2nd rounder - if that 2nd rounder is pick 33 (mid 2nd round) that would equate to a 3rd rounder in a 16 team league... hmmm - wonder if admin can do something to adjust the draft for 24 team leagues?

So you've had the poll up for a week and only 3 out of 11 owners have responded to voting. 8 have commented so not sure if some of them don't have an opinion or, like me, they didn't see the Poll at the top of this thread to vote?Next question, who makes the decision on whether we start the season or not?

I find it hard to vote for any of these 3 options as I would not mind a merger - but with the caveats that I have mentioned.
as far as who makes the ultimate decision... I would surmise that all will remain as is unless we have an overwhelming majority wanting to change. Right now I'm not instilled with a lot of confidence re SD - Spicoli had an issue with his pay pal account so lost his championship team after being an active manager for years... I would think that SD would have made amends and given the new manager another team (at a discount???) - that would have filled another hole here, but... alas.
