I've read thru the rules a couple of times and there are things discussed on the board that seems to be common sense but I cant find a reference for it. Such as the 500 ab's is the magic number for some sort of advance but...also, if I have a 23 year old starter in the minors, who is a B- overall with a B- B C for the other attributes, will he "develop" faster if I allocate him 5 points and keep him in the minors or bring him up and have him take his lumps? Are there any more gee whiz tidbits that arent in the book that you all know and take for granted? thanxMarch 09, 2003 at 07:28PM View BBCode
That 500 AB thing is the old system. Now guys will get a chance to improve for every 10 ABs or so -- meaning there's no longer such a make or break threshhold.March 09, 2003 at 08:37PM View formatted

a couple things:March 09, 2003 at 08:43PM View BBCode
In fact, health can get worse for pitchers, can't it? If a young pitcher works 200+ innings several years in a row or something. I thought I saw a discussion about that.March 09, 2003 at 09:37PM View BBCode
Yes, health can decrease for pitchers. And, as far as I know, it will NOT increase for position players, ever.March 10, 2003 at 12:21AM View BBCode
will improve slightly if a player goes a season without being injured. I still think the whole "health" system we have is poor...at least don't call it health, call it endurance. In the real world when a player gets hurt he comes back healthy, right? And it's extremely unlikely that guys will miss 1 out of every 5 games because they're tired either. Some players might have a higher probability of getting hurt, the wear and tear of a long season might increase that chance as well. I'd like to see 2 ratings, one for endurance (for a position player) and one for injury chance. And I'd like to see health change much more dramatically in a player...when someone comes back from an injury it would stand to reason that they would be healthier, right? So a C ranked players who was out for 40+ days should come back as B+ or so. Then that might over the course of a season shrink down again as the players plays a lot of games and gets worn down. There should always be players who get hurt a bit more because they play a lot, but there should also be those players who get a freak injury out of the blue despite an A+ health, they might get hit by a pitch or whatever and miss 20-30 games as well.March 10, 2003 at 12:43AM View BBCode
Geoffrey is right on target here. I also think we need a lot more short-term injuries. It's very common in the majors for a guy to strain a groin, twist an ankle or come down with the flu. He'll miss 3 or 4 days, but won't even go on the disabled list. Along with this we need to cut back the number of games a guy misses due to fatigue. I don't care how fragile you are, nobody has to sit and rest after playing 5 games.March 10, 2003 at 06:55AM View BBCode
