Possible Auction

April 08, 2006 at 05:12AM View BBCode

Hey all, in the Ken Griffey Jr. league I held a "public auction" for one of my players that lasted about 8 days and where bids were disclosed on the message boards. I wanted to see if people would be receptive to such a thing on here. I'm considering auctioning off Syd Martz, a hot shot, 23-yr old pitching phenom (Check my depth chart).

Below are the rules I employed in the other league. It was actually fun. In the end, my reserve price was met and the trade was executed as agreed upon. Both teams benefited as a result of the auction and subsequent trade.

Everbody let me know you think.

Auction Rules

Duration of Auction. The Auction lasted for about 8 days. I would likely go for 7-10 days here if I decided to go ahead with an auction. However, I should point out, if a new leading bid is made on the last day, the auction will be extending one day until the last day passes without a new leading bid.

How to bid. You send in your bid by sending me an offer. I will decline all but the leading bid at the end of the day.

Leading Bid. At the end of each day, I will post the leading bid on this board for all to see. Interested bidders can then choose to submit a new bid.

Reserve Price. If no bids reach my reserve limit (in my head), the auction will end without a deal being executed. I'm not going to give too many specifics but you should see hints below. Once a reserve price is met, the proposed deal and any new leading bids are binding (I won't back out at that point under any circumstances and I would expect the same from the bidder).

Cancellation of Auction. I reserve the right to stop the auction at anytime (however, I won't even think about undergoing the process if I wasn't very serious about making a trade)). If I say reserve price has been met, I will not cancel the auction/trade.

Non-payment. What if someone makes a leading bid but then cancels it? Well, the only remedy I have is to never do a deal with that owner again under any circumstances, which you guys will agree is justified.

Hint as to Value. At the beginning of the auction and sometimes when I posted the daily high bid, I gave hints as to what I valued most (not specific to any bid) so that someone that considering a bid could determine if they coulod meet my requirements.

Sorry everyone! I received a couple offers after posting this message and the offers were so good I thought this process was unnecessary. Again, I am sorry (Bingle) for not following through with the auction.

It's ok. I would have liked a shot at your pitcher but other than picks, I didn't have the the horses to make that kind of deal anyway. Interesting concept, though. I'd have liked to watch it play out.
