Best Yankee's Lose

After this Yankee series in Oakland where except for the 1st game they were all extremely well played games where the good guys won in memorable fashoin. Anyway it made me think about all the memorable yankees games I'd been to over the years. So since I keep score at every game I go to, last night I checked my scorecards to jolt my Yankee memories.

So while Jeremy Giambi inability to slide when Jeter did his miracle ballerina toss and Koch giving up a 3 Run blast to Posada in the 9th inning of game 5 division series. I think my most memorable game I ever saw vs the Yankees was in 2001. It was late in the waning days of the pennant race on Aug 16, Mulder vs Mussina.

Mussina had been perfect for 4 2/3 innings then he gave up a solo laser bolt jack to left to Tejada giving the A's a 1-0 lead, then the next batter Chavez hit a long fly ball off the foul pole in right. One of those "opps I hit a homer" flyballs. Mulder looked good the entire game never letting a batter past 2nd till the 8th inning in that game until (I'll never forget this) Clay Bellinger, the ninth place hitter, hit a no doubt about it 2 run homer off of Mulder in the eighth inning to tie the game. A painful shot for A's fans who knew the Yankee's bullpen and offense was the best in the league.

So Mulder fought his way through the ninth. In the bottom half Mike Stanton came in, the nasty hard throwing lefty who pretty much blanked out all lefty hitters in the league. So Damon got a one out walk and then the next batter struck out. So with 2 outs in the bottom of the ninth Jason Giambi came up. Giambi was able to work the count to full, on some pitches he looked absolutely foolish against Stanton. But on the 3-2 pitch Stanton threw a breaking ball and Giambi launched that pitch over the Right field wall. It was amazing full count, 2 outs, tie game bottom of the ninth in a playoff/yankee atmosphere with a full crowd the david vs goliath matchup and the A's had won with a walk off home run from the league's MVP. Best game I'd ever been to.

Anyway its too bad that the next year Goliath (Yankees) bought the David's Sling (Giambi) but c'est le vie. Does anyone else have any memorable memories versus the Yankees they would care to share?

Never been to a game the Yanks were involved in, but a Yankee loss is a beautiful thing. Unless it's agains't the Mets. Then it's a darn shame!

This comment addresses another dead thread but my avatar is my college mascot, the bananna slug. My college was a D-3 school so their really was no point to have a fearsome mascot. It only lives in the Pacific Area of the United States I believe.

UC Santa Cruz---haven't you seen Pulp Fiction? Looks like a terrific school...

I've never seen a banana slug as brightly yellow as that one. The ones I've seen in the Northwest look more like this:

"the campus amongst the redwoods" it was a pituresque place. Their were always deers blocking roads and causing traffic jams. It even had Mountain cat warning signs. When it rained those yellow bannana slugs would come out in herds.
