Blockbuster Trade Thread

Any trades that make a major impact for both teams should be posted here. This way, we can keep track of all of the major trades, and if we all post the player cards, then we can look back at the trade 5 years down the road and decide who really got the better end of the deal.

New York (AP) - In a interesting move today, the Gladiators parted ways with their Minor League Player of the Year Justin Upton was traded to last season's AL Pennant winner. Upton is now a new member of the Washington Warriors, and the Gladiators get a 3 player package in return. Highlighting the 3 players is Washington's own SS prospect Ed Carroll. He has B+/A power and the New York brass like him a lot. "He hits the heck out of the ball, and he is ready to play in the majors this year. We feel like he will be a major part of this team for many years to come." Also, they like SP Danny Mahomes to be a future part of the rotation. As a throw-in to add depth to a already deep bullpen, they also acquired Mitch Tolson to furthur add depth.

The main reason they were open to trading Upton was that after this year's strong draft, they needed to unload a prospect to fully develop some of this year's draft picks. One of the draftees that they drafted was young SS prospect Jerry Thomas, so he made Upton expendable.

Overall, the Gladiators GM felt that they got better in the deal.

Weigh-in on who got the better end of the deal.

Washington(AP)- This writer likes the trade for both teams. While maybe not the blockbuster trade that is going to have a huge impact on this up coming season, this will improve both teams for years to come.

The brass here in Washington are excited with the overall upside Upton will give them at SS. They believe they got one of the premier players of the future, with an offseason age of only 21. Carrroll was a fan favorite here in Washington and will be missed. The young pitching they had to give up in order to make this upgrade at short happen was unfortunatly necessary.

Due to the depth and direction of the Warrior's minor leagues, they felt they had no room to provide these two pitchers their due shot at playing time at the major league level. Both were strong character men on and off the field and will be sorely missed.

They Warriors feel they needed and got quality. The quanity they gave up was lessened due to the depth the organization had obtained previously.
One Washington scout was quoted as saying "the Gladiators got 3 major leaguers one may even be an all-star, but the Warriors got a possible MVP." Thats making people here in Washington smile :D.

New York (AP) - Today in New York, the Gladiators added another young starter to their rotation. They felt that they needed another starter, preferably under the age of 25, and have liked Rusty Flick for a long time. In the '55 draft, they would have chosen him had he fallen to them with the 2nd overall pick. The Gladiators GM had nothing but good things to say about Flick "He already knows how to bring the heat, and his control is decent to good. He will continue to work on it, but now we feel we have 2 of the best young starting pitchers in the TRL, and we hope that we can acquire one or two more through the draft or trades." They feel that Mahomes has the potential to be a back of the rotation starter, as does Sisco if he can learn to stay in the games longer. If both of those guys are granted spots in the rotation the next couple of years, they will use the other spot on a mentor. Mania is left out, but might be serviceable as a spot starter/long reliever.

In order for him to become a Gladiator, they had to trade away two young hitters and a good young reliever. Curtis Granderson and Justin Huber had become expendable, because of their new depth of hitting, and they were 25. Both could turn out to be big parts of the Blue Ray's future, and they also acquired a future middle reliever. Leo Nunez hasn't pitched in awhile for the Gladiators, because he is too old for their rebuilding plans, and too old to help mentor those kids in the rebuilding plans. To help to get the deal done, New York threw in Baltimore's 2nd round draft pick in this year's draft that they acquired 2 years earlier in the Randy Calderon + 2 draft picks - Ichiro swap.

Overall, they felt that they now have 2 starters that will be with them for many years to come, and the way they are playing, they will be able to possibly add another top of the line young SP with the first overall pick in this upcoming draft.
