Punters

September 14, 2005 at 06:16AM View BBCode

Hey can any of you blokes give me an idea of how NY Jets punter Ben Graham is rated over there? the reason i ask is hes an aussie like me and was playing aussie rules until this year. I would be interested to know how he stacks up against other punters in the league? apparently he is the oldest rookie at 31..... do the Jets still suck?

If last week was any indication, yes.

As far as Graham goes, he's been giving the Jets punt returner, Justin Miller, fits when he tries to field his punts. He (and the punt coverage) contained Dante Hall pretty nicely on special teams as well last week. Unfortunately that's about the ONLY thing they did well last week.

I'll let you in on a little secret about America broady.

Punters...are lame. They get zero women. They are an incremental step above 2nd tuba player in the hierarchy of football.

Not fairly, of course. The more often you can pin a defense deep in their own territory, the better off you are. But it's true enough: Chicks don't dig kickers.

im pretty sure he couldnt pull a chick over here either.....

he can kick an aussie rules football 60-65metres consistantly so was wonder if he kicks longer than the rest of em... i believe hang time is more sought after than distance tho right?

You need a little of both. And you need to be able to place it as well. I seriously doubt he ca kick a football 60 meters, I believe that translates of the top of my head to about 65-70 yards I think. Most punts max out about 50 -55 yards

Great Duff the Even-handed swoops in with his defense of punters. Let's face it: punters don't just suck on wheels; they suck on roller skates. Big pink ones. That come with those little skate keys.

Keep in mind that a punt is measured from the line of scrimmage. Punters are kicking from 10-15 yards behind it.

Good point Whiskey, so I just checked it out and the best punter in the league last year, Shane Lechler of Oakland grossed 46.7 yards per punt. That would tell me the ball went about 60 yards. Of course this stat also includes any roll the ball may have had but since most punts are caught I would say 60 yards is a good # to go by for length

.06 hectometers, and 65 meters is just over 71 yards

I don't know anything about these "hectometers" that you talk about. I know that there are 40 rods to a furlong. How far did he kick in rods, I ask, so that I may know how far a "meter" is.

1 meter = .1988384 rods (survey)
1 meter = .1988388 rods (international)

A hectometer is the closest thing I could find to a hectares as hectares' and a meter aren't convertable

Bad, bad, bad.

Punters....continue to be lame.

And continue to be necessary--that's all I'm saying. And anyway, the median income for a punter is still half a million dollars a year, with some making even more. Where I come from, that buys some fine butt. As a pure matter of buying power, punters should still be able to obtain finer butt than the vast majority of the population.

"Butt"? Jesus, just reading that is enough to give a person gay.

Duff the Even-Handed really should have a ballad or a lay written about him.

I use "butt" because other obviously less gay terms might raise the ire of a certian admin.

the only reason australians know who the NY Jets are is because Kevin Arnold wore the jacket in the Wonder Years....
