2nd Season Dynasty Thoughts

September 08, 2005 at 12:43AM View BBCode

It became quickly apparent to me that the Unions would not be able to compete as we were configured so ............. rebuild.

I was already committed to [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?player=nobody&mode=stats&id=1933373] Diggs [/url], based as much on his failure to convert as a minor leaguer as much as anything else, so I stuck him in the top of the order and let him go. The results were a pleasant surprise and a well deserved 3rd place in ROY voting.

A quick analysis of my pitching revealed that it was:

A) Bad
and
B) Old

So I offered up some sluggers for some arms............... the lack of response was deafening, so I gave away an all star 1st baseman in return for young fireballin' lefty [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=1668996] Walt Coogan [/url]. Oh yeah, since this is the pitching starved ASL I had to toss in another pitcher and a 3rd round pick but got some veteran sugar in [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=1668259] Tex Grieve [/url] who I then packaged along with prospect [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=1788594] Nate Torres [/url] and a draft pick swap to acquire a guy I really liked, [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=2086459] Chili Palmer [/url] ,who was immediately plugged into the lineup and fared well playing both corner infield positions.

Now with [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?player=nobody&mode=stats&id=1933373] Diggs [/url] and [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=2086459] Chili Palmer [/url] in the line up every day I had to move fan favourite [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=1668613] Boog Rogers [/url] picking up a marginal prospect ([url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=1668346] Red Stovall [/url]) and a future pick in return.

My 1st round pick in the '53 draft [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?player=nobody&mode=stats&id=2086225] Ned Logan [/url] was rushed to the majors and performed well (though that D endurance is a bit of a concern) and his balance of velocity and control bodes well for the future, plus as a bonus he only pitched 49 2/3 innings so will qualify as a rookie next year. Another rookie who showed promise in his late season call up was outfielder [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?player=nobody&mode=stats&id=2086390] Cad Dunn [/url], the younger brother of disappointment [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?player=nobody&mode=stats&id=1668456] Frankie Dunn [/url]. My other rookie experiment [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?playername=nobody&mode=stats&id=2086310] David Garver [/url] didn't fare as well, plus it looks like my "catcher of the future" [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?playername=nobody&mode=stats&id=1668224] Astronaut Jones [/url] is a AAAA player.

Veterans who performed well were 1st Team All Stars [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?player=nobody&mode=stats&id=1668564] Tom Highway [/url] and [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?player=nobody&mode=stats&id=1668462] WJ Lepotomaine [/url] and solid shortstop [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?player=nobody&mode=stats&id=1669167] Jimmie McGinty [/url], though his steady decline in slugging % is a bit disconcerting.

In the minors the "jewels" ([url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?player=nobody&mode=stats&id=1933260] Potter [/url] and [url= http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?player=nobody&mode=stats&id=2086326] Wales [/url]) continue to be nurtured and with the 3rd or 4th pick this year the farm future looks bright.

I am hopeful of some off season improvements from my young major leaguers - see you in '54.
