White Sox Report '52

May 12, 2005 at 10:38AM View BBCode

I'm a little late with the White Sox Report this season. I have been out in West Texas searching in search of (yes, searching in search of is what I ment) talent for my team, and avoiding snakes.

Rookie Rich Pena (a West Texas boy) joins the starting line up at 3B. Rich was a switch-hitting SS in junior college with a great arm and remarkable speed. It didn't take our coaches long to convince me to give him a shot at the major league level. Rich is off to a great start in this young season with 6 HR and a .286 BA

The middle of the line up, Karns, Caskey and Karpel are nearing the end of their development. None of them are big power hitters, but seem to be off to a good start hitting for average. However, Karpel has 9HR is this young season.

On the pitching staff, we decided to keep Cunningham as 4th starter in spite of his rather dismal rookie year. Cunningham spent the winter working on his control and he seems to have improved a little.

In the minors, our top prospect, SP Ken Pearson is receiving intensive coaching. We're in no hurry to bring up this future CYA winner.

Too keep our youngsters focused, the White Sox have selected Del Rio, Texas for the home of our minor league team. Not too many distractions for them down in Del Rio.

Good luck everybody.
