with the cubs losing sammy sosa and matt clement do you think they can compete against sainlouis this year for the dividision? will be tough with houston going at it to i would thinkMarch 20, 2005 at 12:29AM View BBCode
It will be rough, but not enough credit is going to the Cubs GM, I think he'll pull off a deal for the closer they need before the all-star break. But all rests upon Wood and Prior playing to form soon...March 20, 2005 at 12:35AM View BBCode
Dusty Baker is going to continue to overwork the starting pitchers, and they will get injured, and again the team will seemingly underachieve.March 20, 2005 at 02:25PM View BBCode
It looks like Prior and Wood already have arm issues this year. If they do its going to be a long season. If those 2 can saty healthy and pitch well then a postseason trip is very likely. I don't think they will make it though. Too much rides on 2 often injured playersMarch 20, 2005 at 03:01PM View BBCode
you mean wood and pror??? didnt they trade matt clement?March 20, 2005 at 03:13PM View BBCode

yup, idk if the cubs avoid injuried they will be good if they hit injuries again they age in HUGE trouble. if only there wasnt those injuries we would have a sox, cubs world series now how good whould that have been lol pitching vs pitching.March 20, 2005 at 04:59PM View BBCode
The Sox scored 949 runs last year with a very similar lineup to what they are putting on the field this year, so I'm not exactly sure how a Sox-Cubs WS would be pitching vs. pitching except insomuch as every WS team has at least decent pitching. Last year they had exactly one starter with a sub-3.50 ERA, and I suspect it'll be much the same this year.March 20, 2005 at 05:21PM View BBCode

I was just looking at the team stats from last seaon and Boston had the 11th best team ERA while the Cubs were 3rd. I wouldn't consider the Redsox a top pitching team this year either. In my view the might have taken a slight step back but that remains to be seen. I don't see the Cubs keeping those 2 young guns healthy either. The Redsox will pitch a little and smash the hell out of the ball enough to get a WC and we'll see what happens then. The Cubs will implode around Aug-Sept. I wish it were different but I doubt it.March 20, 2005 at 05:32PM View BBCode
Another good point. Still, it's a little inaccurate to refer to the Sox as a "pitching" team when they scored, by a fairly wide margin, the most runs in baseball, and "only" finished fourth in the AL in runs allowed.March 20, 2005 at 08:31PM View BBCode
agreed I don't think pitching when I think of Boston. I don't know if anyone ever will, throughout their history they have been a team that just tries to outscore you.March 20, 2005 at 10:01PM View BBCode
yeah but when wakefield and pedro and clement, and curt all sp they have pitching, and it really depends on there bullpen, when i think of boston the 3 names that come to my mind is david ortiz, curt shilling, and pedro martinez, i think with matt clement joingn there team they will win the division this year, last year matt was like 13-14 BUT he had a good era and if you have a good era and a good hitting you will be successful, and that is why i think pitching BUT yes they do have all the hitting they need.March 20, 2005 at 10:07PM View BBCode
Why would Pedro Martinez come to mind when you think of Boston? You do realize he doesn't play for them anymore, right? Does Mo Vaughn come to mind too? Or maybe when you think of Boston you picture Carl Yastrzemski. And I guess Manny Ramirez is just cashing paychecks, he's not an important piece or anything.March 20, 2005 at 10:16PM View BBCode
oh wait my bad i forgot about him, well no mo vaughn does not come to mind. he was great when he was there but when he went to the angles that killed hi. yes i also think of manny. now that i think of it they are a hitting team.March 20, 2005 at 10:20PM View BBCode
Periods. Very good. Here's another suggestion - some very basic proofreading. If you see that you typed the word "hi" and you meant to type "him", then go back and add the m. It doesn't take that long.March 21, 2005 at 12:43AM View BBCode
Chicago is a wild card team if things play out like they should, with a decent chance in the playoffs. If Zambrano keeps pitching great, Wood and Prior stay healthy (and good), the Cards falter a bit, and they get good hitting from their outfield (especially Patterson), they could win the division and maybe the NL. If either Prior or Wood is hurt for a significant amount of time, but everything else goes ok, they will be in a late wild card race. If both Prior and Wood get hurt, their screwed.March 21, 2005 at 12:50AM View BBCode
Things aren't looking good for them now. Wood and Prior are both hurt right now and I don't think that they will have enough offense to de-throne the Cards. They may be able to take second in the Central if Clemens, Pettite, and/or Oswalt go down (which there is a decent chance of that happening because Clemens is a bazillion years old, Pettitte is coming off of an elbow injury and Oswalt has a reputation for getting hurt) or the Stros offense falters. But they would need a healthy Prior and Wood to do that. I think that the Wild Card team will come out of the East this year because that is the most talented division in the NL.March 21, 2005 at 01:08AM View BBCode
well i dont get how you get hurt in the off season that is really bad. imagine coming back one night after off season and seeing that your pitcher got hurt would would laugh but at the same time be pissed. But i guess that is what happens now a days. so who you think the wild card team would be if it is NOT the cubbiesMarch 21, 2005 at 01:11AM View BBCode
Phillies and Marlins probably have a decent chance. Mets have a chance if everything goes right. Or maybe the Padres. Or the Giants. Or the Astros.March 21, 2005 at 01:15AM View BBCode
intresting, i dont know about the phillies and giantsMarch 21, 2005 at 01:18AM View BBCode
I may be off on the Phillies, I don't really know what happened with them during the offseason.March 21, 2005 at 01:24AM View BBCode
Prior made 12 pitches off the mound today, if I were a Cubs fan, I'd be overjoyed:rolleyes:March 21, 2005 at 01:26AM View BBCode
Thank you Jesus!March 21, 2005 at 01:27AM View BBCode
Phillies got Lieber and Lofton, lost Felix Rodriguez. And Polanco accepted arbitration and is now pissed that he won't get playing time. And Brett Myers is still sucking. And possibly the most important thing...yhey hired Manuel as manager to prove that the Braves can beat them no matter what manager they have
