Ailing Cavaliers

January 26, 2005 at 04:19PM View BBCode

A foot sprain is keeping Cavaliers point guard Jeff McInnis out for probably another week. Anderson Verejao suffered a high ankle sprain in Mondays loss to Washington. Verejao has been the Cavaliers best rebounder for the past month. The time certainly looks right for Detroit and Chicago to make their move on the Cavaliers.

If McInnis is out any longer, Snow is going to collapse. They've been playing him like 45 minutes per game. They'll need to sign someone to a 10 day contract to back up Snow if McInnis doesn't come back soon.

I read today he was likely going to miss the Memphis game, but hopefully be ready for the Knicks game.

Snow has been in there almost every minute and he had not played much this year. Paul Silas said last night that he's expecting Sigonna Diop to pick up the slack for Verjao, but I think that's expecting too much from him.

Diop's been a big disappointment this year. Granted I don't have the package this year, so I've only seen a few games, but he played pretty well last year and had some great games. Maybe he can turn things around with this opportunity.

Diop has been a bust since they signed him (2.3 ppg and 3.6 rpg last year), but this year he has not even getting any minutes b/c of the good play by Verejao.

I think McInnis is suppose to be back by the knicks game.

BTW, Verejao is going to be out for 4-6 weeks, and you forgot to mention rookie Luke Jackson who was suppose to be a great pick for them (injured for the rest of the season) and Wagner(who always seems to be injured)

Yeah good points. I didn't mention Jackson simply because he really wasn't that much of a contributor this season. Verejao is the one that will definately hurt the team because he really does bring energy to the rest of the team when he's on the court. Oh well, maybe Diop or even Scott Williams can do something in his absence.

Lebron came back from what looked like a bad ankle sprain and led the cavs to a win, 27 points 9 rebounds, career high 15 assists, but Ira Newble got injured to join the growing list of injured players.
