Probable Pitchers & Starter Skipping
April 21, 2003 at 04:42PM View BBCode
I adjusted the standings page to use the new starter skipping logic to determine probably pitchers.
The probable pitchers isn't always 100% accurate anyhow, but it should be pretty close.
So let me know if you see any starters starting in the wrong order, or if Probables doesn't match what is happening.

I think I found the bug and fixed it, at least to why RP were being used as starters on occassion.
Here's how it works. If you choose to never skip starters, it will look at who pitched the previous game. It will then attempt to pitch the next guy. If he is unavailable, it will go on to the next guy.
So let's say your #2 starter pitches. Abe will try to pitch your #3 starter next. If he is unavailable, it will look to see if #4 is ready. Then #5, then #1, then the bullpen.
If you choose to skip only the #5 starter, it will use the above strategy except when it is the #5's starters turn to pitch. In that case, it will see if any other pitcher is available to pitch.
This is another potential problem area. If your #5 is skipped, and your #3 comes into pitch. Then it will try to pitch your #4 guy, then your #5, 1-2. So it may have the effect of skipping the number 1-2 as well. I'm not sure, we'll have to see how it works out.

For the "Use SP out of the pen if necessary" option, is it possible to specify which "position" we would want the SP that comes out of the Bullpen to be?
Something like: "Only consider SP's (#3) through (#5) when bringing and SP in in relief." It would also be nice to be able to specify to use the one with the least energy available, but it seems that this would be harder.

Abe automatically works backwards through the rotation. He'll try to use the #5 starter first.
