Auto Promote/Demote

October 15, 2004 at 06:50PM View BBCode

I added another feature into the game. Anytime a game is played, if your have more than 10 pitchers or 15 position players, a player is automatically demoted. If you have less than 10 pitchers or 15 position players, a player is automatically promoted.

It was easiest to make the code do 1 player per game. So if you are over by 4 players, or under by 4 players, you'll see one guy get promoted or demoted for the next 4 games.

Abe will use the same rules posted from yesterday in deciding who to promote or demote. (more or less the most recently drafted player with options left). With this exception - if you don't have any players on the majors with options, he won't demote someone. Likewise, if you don't have any players in the minors left with options, he won't promote someone.

I think the addition of this logic, plus the new waiver claim logic, should quiet the people who get up in arms over teams having too many or too few players. (ahem - if you're one of those people, I expect that you'll pay close attention to this while testing).

This should prevent teams from having too many players for the most part, and in the case that they do have too many players, deal with it appropriately nearly all of the time.

Which player would be demoted? I would hope its a guy who still has options left.

Will this rule be in effect during the playoffs? For example, lets say a team has three players resting, but do not make the playoffs.

Will they remain resting until the off season? Will they automatically be placed on your major league roster as soon as the season is over and be subjected to these rules as the LCS and WS are played?

The code to auto promote and demote is built into the area of code where teams are loaded just prior to a game. So its the teams actually playing in that game.

In other words, it only happens when your team plays in a game.

Also, remember that all resting players are returned to not-resting when the OffSeason is run.

Tyson, last night I noticed I had tons of my regular players in the minors and my young prospects in the majors, so I fixed it.

This afternoon the same thing happend...

Perhaps this isn't working properly. If you see it happen again, don't touch your team and let me know. I'll look into this, but its probably easier to investigate before you make adjustments.

I'm seeing the same thing in my development area and am running some tests to try to find the problem. I'll have an update this afternoon.

I found the problem and corrected it. You should see your roster slowly fix itself as games get played.

The whole promoting and demoting thing

won't affect players with CPs will it? I don't want some kid from the minors that i've got 5 CPs on to suddenly be promoted.

It could affect players with CPs. Bottom line - make sure your team has the proper number of players on it and you won't have anything to worry about.
