You can't win them all...or.....maybe you can???

Pittsburgh has put up twelve straight to start the 1952 season. The Gunslingers went 40-41 last season after finishing in first place (46-35) but dropping the NLCS to Chicago. So their fans have been pleasantly surprised by this start.

This one required some over time by the Shootists. Pittsburgh used five pitchers, Los Angeles emptied their bullpen using seven different pitcher in the loss.

The game was an exciting see-saw affair that saw both teams coming back to tie and go ahead but neither able to take charge in the first nine innings.

Pittsburgh took a early lead in the first inning on a gift from 2b Bobby Wolfgang whose two base error allowed Chuck Chavez to score.

The Smog came back with two runs in the bottom half of the first to go up 2-1.

Adrian Hayden tripled and Jim Sheldon hit a two run homer.

Pittsburgh tied the game 2-2 in the top of the second on a run scoring single by Ismael Norris.

The Pittsburgh bats came alive in the 4th to score two runs and take a 4-2 lead. Chavez hit a two run homerun made possible by Wolfgang's second error of three in the game.

in the 4th Los Angeles cut the lead to one on doubles by Karl hopper and Jeff Tudor. 4-3.

Marty Lomon tied the game 4-4 with a single in the bottom of the 6th and Hayden hit a solo homerun in the 7th to put Los Angeles in front 5-4.

Pittsburgh tied it in the 8th but lost a runner stealing in the inning. Abraham Smith tripled and Cy Buddin hit a sac-fly to tie the game 5-5.

Pittsburgh went ahead to stay in the top of the 12th.

Campbell singled to left and scored on Johnny hickey long blast to left. Smith doubled and scored a third run in the inning when Slim Howard singled.

Final 8-6 Pittsburgh Perfectos.....

Due to my being exhausted we move to the Toronto finale in Texas...

After splitting the first two games Toronto pulled out a 7-3 win in Texas to take their first series win on the road.

Steve Cratcher tripled and scored on a sacrifice fly by Adolfo Oro in the first inning.

Toronto scored their second run in the second inning off Wheeler. White walked with none out, stole second and scored with two outs on Steve Cratcher's single.

Wheeler singled in the third but was caught stealing/picked off. Rip Caneira singled to left and he was able to steal second. John Bahr scored him with a clutch two out single.

2-1 Toronto.....

Texas tied the game 2-2 in the seventh on a double by Tommy Pendleton.

Larry Conti was pitching for Texas in the 9th....Pinch hitter Willie Hunter reached on an two base error by left fielder Terry Rudderham.

Sig Lee, the shortstop, robbed pinch hitter Chris Spencer of a hit.

Cratcher grounded out routinely to Lee.

Pat Pemberton singled to left driving in Hunter to send the game into extra innings.

George Twombly went seven and two thirds inning for Toronto allowed eight hits and three runs while striking out eleven and walking no one.

Fred Herndon got the Jays out of the eighth inning and Andre McGroth went the rest of the way for the win.

The Toronto bullpen got its first major action in this series pitching seven and a third with twelve strikeouts one save and one win.

Andre McGroth shut down Texas for three innings. Toronto tied the game in the ninth on an error by Rudderham in left that put pinch hitter Willie Hunter on second where he scored from on a single by Pemberton.

McGroth batted for himself in the eleventh with one out reached base on a Sig Lee error.

Cratcher singled to leftfield, McGroth to third base.

Pemberton's single drove him in. Cratcher raced to third base. Jim Hague doubled to left scoring Cratcher and Pemberton scored.

Jack Didier replaced Jesse Treechok.

Marty Slagel's single made it a four run inning and McGroth finished Texas off in the bottom half to make it official.

Marty Slagle has played well driving in runs and playing good defense since being acquired and is keeping veteran shortstop Chris Spencer on the bench.

The work of the bullpen in this series must hearten Blue Jays fans that the big arms down there are primes for a much better season than they had last season.
