Thoughts on promoting my catcher

July 14, 2017 at 09:35PM View BBCode

I know he's too young, but he's the best catcher on the team. Is it a good idea to get him up there and see if he can help us out this year, or keep him down and have one more year of improves, despite the other two guys being warmed over spit?

thanks!

fine to promote him, OS 22 is ok in majors for a hitter. he may lose a couple conversions here and there but long-term the difference will be negligible at most. the big risk is if he gets a long injury or 2. he's probably not going to do very well though, he isn't very good at anything yet.

he's of an age that being up won't damage his development if you're competing. but he cant get hurt in the majors so if you aren't competing and have the room you might as well leave him down.

develop him and trade for a less bad catcher to replace the green letter one. as one known to rush slow down.

Leave him down. I can't imagine your team will be competing after looking at your depth chart, and some of the other teams like TB and WAS.

If CPs are an issue, then promote Colbert for the first half of the season, and maybe the young catcher (or Trouppe) for the second half of the season.

Id have him up and playing as much as possible. The ROY last year in the league had worse attributes. http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?player=nobody&mode=stats&id=12372103 He performed quite admirably. Mercer's conv % last year was only 50/50. Being in the majors wont have much consequences on his long term development.

Mercer's 50% for his skill level and age was actually quite good.

Your guy was below 50% on his offensive conversions though. His defensive conversions were 20-for-24 because's rated so poorly on defense. Take those away and he was only 21-46. That's hardly great, especially considering he's not very good offensively either.
