Top Prospects of the CPBL 2013

June 16, 2017 at 09:53PM View BBCode

Look! A list! The top shuffled up with several promotions over the past year. Enjoy.

12 Rank - 13 Rank - Name/Team/Pos
4 - 1 - [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=12074736&statsorimps=imps]Walt Aloma[/url] PIT SP - Drafted 3rd in 2008 - ETA: 2014
By the end of the season Aloma might be the best pitcher on the Pittsburgh roster. He's shooting for B+/A+ by the end of the season and will be a rookie sensation if he can. Expect this to be the last year the hungry Pittsburgh fans allow this ace in the making to remain a Lil' Reb

7 - 2 - [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=12293961&statsorimps=imps]Ron Ogden[/url] CHN SP - Drafted 4th in 2009 - ETA: 2014
Ogden gets another year pitching for the Iowa Curse despite having better talents than much of the current Chicago staff. It's for the best and the Curse appear headed for a 100 loss season and that WPM would only slow his development

2 - 3 - [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=11938088&statsorimps=imps]Dusty Kenworthy[/url] KC SP - Drafted 3rd in 2007 - ETA: 2013
Kentworthy is in his 7th minor league season and might be getting bored of the competition. He'd be a mid-level starter if promoted, but should have bit more development left in him. He only converted 5 IC's last season so expect a promotion if he gets off to another slow start

6 - 4 - [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=12347148&statsorimps=imps]Jim Miklos[/url] PIT 2B - Drafted 1st in 2010 - ETA: 2014
Every major ability for Miklos stands in the B range except for his arm (C+). He's going to be well rounded and has an outside shot to hit A+/A+ vs right handers. He added infield versatility last season and is a candidate to start a shortstop when he arrives

10 - 5 - [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=12398186&statsorimps=imps]Javy Bagwell[/url] DET SP - Drafted 9th in 2011 - ETA: 2014
Bagwell chugged along and raised his overall rating again last year, although he's clearly on the lower end of B+. There is nowhere for him to go anytime soon on the major league roster, so he'll continue dominating the minor league circuit with the Flint Matchbox Makers until space becomes available

9 - 6 - [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=12398245&statsorimps=imps]Bob Montague[/url] NYA LF - Drafted 3rd in 2011 - ETA: 2015
He can hit a major league left hander well but needs that swing vs right handers to keep improving. At C/A-, he could expect to be B-/A+ if he's given a couple more years. At 19 years old, there's no rush

14 - 7 - [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=12398226&statsorimps=imps]Charlie Porter[/url] KC 1B - Drafted 2nd in 2011 - ETA: 2014
Porter is knocking on the door of A+ power and his contact is keeping up nicely. The Athletics will need to find him a defensive position to hide and a spot in the lineup where he won't clog up the bases. But he'll hit a ton of home runs, which is nice

12 - 8 - [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=12293964&statsorimps=imps]Art Cey[/url] FLA RF - Drafted 15th in 2009 - ETA: 2014
This future leadoff ace is on the verge of promotion. His speed will take a year or two in the majors to hit A+, but he shouldn't have much trouble getting on base right away. He can even play good defense, although a shift to a premium position would be nice

18 - 9 - [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=12449577&statsorimps=imps]George Perrine[/url] KC SP - Drafted 1st in 2012 - ETA: 2017
Perrine didn't have a great year in the minors last season, but he's still on pace. At B-/B at 19 years old until December, he should continue his climb nicely. Expect his control to dip into the red ratings sometime next season

17 - 10 - [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=12449605&statsorimps=imps]Lorenzo Gravano[/url] CHA RF - Drafted 2nd in 2012 - ETA: 2016
Gravano flipped over to Chicago in a blockbuster of a deal and is now the American League's problem. This bat could top out at A-/A+ from both sides although his speed and defense will hold him back slightly

15 - 11 - [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=12347220&statsorimps=imps]Hank LaRose[/url] WAS RP - Drafted 13th in 2010 - ETA: 2016
Development slowed last year for Larose although it's nothing unexpected at his age. At 21, he still needs another season or two to push his skills to B+ overall. Right now he holds just enough endurance to make it in the rotation

16 - 12 - [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=12294013&statsorimps=imps]Wes McCament[/url] WAS SP - Drafted 14th in 2009 - ETA: 2014
McCament has been great in terms of development every other year and is coming off his second disappointing season in the minor leagues. At B-/B+, one more average year could get him called up. One more big year and the Senators won't have much of a choice

20 - 13 - [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=12347196&statsorimps=imps]Joe Oliva[/url] FLA SP - Drafted 12th in 2010 - ETA: 2015
Oliva keeps having good minor league seasons and is close to major league ready. At A/C+, one more bump in velocity and control should earn his a spot in the Furies' rotation. That could be as soon as next season

27 - 14 - [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=12074846&statsorimps=imps]Scottie Shanahan[/url] DET 2B - Drafted 15th in 2008 - ETA: 2014
Scottie Shanny got a taste of the majors this year with middling results. His swing vs right handers is almost there at A-/B+ but is still lost vs lefties. He's slotted to play second base right now, which will be a good fit. Expect him up next year with a platoon partner.

26 - 15 - [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=12398225&statsorimps=imps]Norm Burke[/url] TOR RF - Drafted 13th in 2011 - ETA: 2015
Burke's bat is nearly ready to go at 20 years old. With Toronto's championship window closing, he may get a shot earlier than normal to see how it fares vs major league pitching

30 - 16 - [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=12449591&statsorimps=imps]Chris Pickett[/url] CHA SP - Drafted 13th in 2012 - ETA: 2019
Picket took a big jump in control and is a good bet to reach A control prior to his call-up. With his velocity not far behind, the 13th pick from last year has a bright future

24 - 17 - [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=12347208&statsorimps=imps]Benny Cobb[/url] TOR 3B - Drafted 10th in 2010 - ETA: 2016
Watching Cobb's B/B ability vs right handers tells us he's got a couple years in the minors left. Everything else will be fine when his ability to hit the majority of pitchers gets good enough to start

25 - 18 - [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=12398235&statsorimps=imps]Cliff Cooper[/url] CHN LF - Drafted 1st in 2011 - ETA: 2016
Coop is getting the job done in the minor league circuit, but his swing vs lefties is holding him back. Against right handers, he could end up A/A, but his lefty swing is on pace for B/A-. His speed will help and he should eventually be able to handle himself on defense

38 - 19 - [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=12449587&statsorimps=imps]Steve Bando[/url] FLA 3B - Drafted 10th in 2012 - ETA: 2019
Bando had a great year in 2012, converting to third base and making his swing vs right handers worth something. Up from D+/C+ to C-/B is a career saving jump and he's now looking like he'll force himself into Florida's plans. At 19, he just needs to avoid setbacks to end up starting in the future

28 - 20 - [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=12398267&statsorimps=imps]Brian Maranville[/url] BOS SS - Drafted 16th in 2011 - ETA: 2016
After converting a total of 49 IC's in contact, he has a D+ and C- rating. He still looks good in the power, speed and defensive departments, so he can afford weak contact. If he can get that A+ PvR he'll be good enough to start at 3B for the Terriers.

29 - 21 - [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=12449572&statsorimps=imps]Ray Huber[/url] NYN RP - Drafted 5th in 2012 - ETA: 2017
A big year in velocity threw Huber out of balance, but he's still gone room to grow. At A/C, he should end up A+/B- in the worst case. He's a reliever for the Gothams, so expect him to log a ton of innings once he's recalled

43 - 22 - [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=12449584&statsorimps=imps]Ben Piccolo[/url] STL RP - Drafted 18th in 2012 - ETA: 2018
Piccolo went to the Browns in exchange for some offensive help in SF. He managed to get out of the D range in control and could be on track to become an average pitcher. He'll top out around A+/B- if things go well

34 - 23 - [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=12347159&statsorimps=imps]Jed Blank[/url] COL 1B - Drafted 30th in 2010 - ETA: 2015
Blank could use some major league playing time to develop, something that won't come in Colorado. His red letter power suggests he can start, but he's heading towards the bench unless Colorado and pack him up for some major league upgrades

35 - 24 - [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=12293991&statsorimps=imps]Ken Sitton[/url] CHA SP - Drafted 23rd in 2009 - ETA: 2015
Sitton is closing in on A- control and B+ overall should follow shortly. He won't be among the elite, but the 24 year old should perform well enough as a 5th starter or middle reliever upon his promotion

NR - 25 - [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=12510182&statsorimps=imps]Jim Martin[/url] CHN SP - Drafted 4th in 2013 - ETA: 2020
The Curse plucked Martin 4th overall last draft and seems to have a good one. B-/C- looks more like A/B in his early 20's and a little luck in his development could make him a staff ace. He won't be 18 until December leaving him with plenty of time to develop starter quality tools

NR - 26 - [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=12510138&statsorimps=imps]Bob Brewer[/url] PIT SP - Drafted 1st in 2013 - ETA: 2019
Brewer went as the top pick as a B- overall 17 year old. He's well balanced at C+/B- with B+ endurance. The only thing that can hold him back is a poor development curve. So far this year he's 1 for 17 in IC's? Ouch

NR - 27 - [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=12510219&statsorimps=imps]Pat Long[/url] COL SP - Drafted 14th in 2013 - ETA: 2020
Colorado ended up with this pitching project with a long way to go. C-/C+ at 17 years old is a good place to start, so he has a good chance in a good organization to develop

36 - 28 - [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=12293937&statsorimps=imps]Al Sauer[/url] NYN RP - Drafted 21st in 2009 - ETA: 2014
More attention meant more conversions for Sauer as he had his best year in the minors since being drafted. He's still just A-/C+ so he needs at least one more year before he can get the call

39 - 29 - [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=12347147&statsorimps=imps]Jim Burich[/url] COL RP - Drafted 14th in 2010 - ETA: 2015
Burich got fired up for 2012, converting 16 IC's. That moved him up to B+/B- but he's also 22 years old. Time is starting to run out and he'll need another big year to make the leap from roster filler to legit reliever

37 - 30 - [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=12449602&statsorimps=imps]Ralph Cliburn[/url] BOS 3B - Drafted 8th in 2012 - ETA: 2017
Ralphy had a good year in the minors and is on pace to max out his CvR. His PvR will lag behind and he's not on pace for elite speed, limiting his usefulness. Also, he lacks a clear defensive position. His ability to hit left handers could net him a starting gig eventually, but he's not looking like the stuff of superstar right now.

40 - 31 - [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=12449594&statsorimps=imps]Jack Sothoron[/url] DET SP - Drafted 11th in 2012 - ETA: 2019
Sothoron had a solid year of development and is a strong bet to reach A- overall. He may be ready to promote right when the Autoworker rotation starts to age although it's unlikely he'll replace the lost production of his predecessor

42 - 32 - [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=12398212&statsorimps=imps]Bobby Lansing[/url] WAS LF - Drafted 10th in 2011 - ETA: 2015
Lansing is polished vs left handed pitching, but his ability to hit right handers needs to get better in a hurry to avoid ending up in a platoon. At C+/B it won't ever be elite, but it can climb to a respectable level with a little major league playing time

46 - 33 - [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=12449581&statsorimps=imps]Bob Spinks[/url] STL SP - Drafted 19th in 2012 - ETA: 2018
Spinks took a bit jump to C-/A which earns him a spot in the future plans of the Browns. However, he's likely to top out at C+/A+

41 - 34 - [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=12449658&statsorimps=imps]Orlando Suggs[/url] BAL RP - Drafted 2nd in 2012 - ETA: 2020
Suggs jumped from C- overall to C+ overall providing optimism for Baltimore. His solid development year could be a sign of a gem prospect, but is more likely due to his low starting ratings. If he can keep up this pace, he'll be an above average pitcher and a steal for the Boh's

NR - 35 - [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=12449656&statsorimps=imps]Dave Creek[/url] NYA RF - Drafted 9th in 2012 - ETA: 2019
Dave(son's) Creek hit on 68 of 69 IC's last year. He's hit 13 of 15 so far this year. He might be a gem, but his make up isn't as promising. He leans contact heavy without plus speed or defense. A gem curve could fix that and he's in the Bombers' plans after his first great season in the minors

44 - 36 - [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=12398199&statsorimps=imps]Harry Hewitt[/url] BRO RP - Drafted 28th in 2011 - ETA: 2016
Hewitt had another good year of development for his age but is still behind other prospects his age. At B+/B- his best bet to make this roster is a full rebuild. That's possible in Brooklyn with several players in decline

NR - 37 - [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=12510205&statsorimps=imps]Will Callahan[/url] TOR SP - Drafted 11th in 2013 - ETA: 2020
Drafted by SF then immediately shipped north of the border, Callahan is a project pitcher with reason for optimism. At C+/C-, he has an outside chance at A overall but will likely end up A/A- pitcher

NR - 38 - [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=12510169&statsorimps=imps]Roscoe Young[/url] SF LF - Drafted 28th in 2013 - ETA: 2017
Young fell to the Crims due to his imperfect makeup. That works in the big house as this guy has some real power potential. He's close to ready vs left handers and should be solid vs righties. His CvR is a bit of a concern and he won't run or field well. Still, he's a steal at 28th overall

NR - 39 - [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=12510190&statsorimps=imps]Luke Smith[/url] NYA RP - Drafted 7th in 2013 - ETA: 2020
Smith was auto-promoted and got lit up. He allowed 14 runs and 20 hits in 11 innings while blowing 3 saves. On the bright side, he struck out 12. In the minors, he's a high velocity, low control gamble. He's young enough, but he needs to get to C- control by the end of the season to have much of a future

32 - 40 - [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=12449566&statsorimps=imps]Warren Velez[/url] BRO SP - Drafted 16th in 2012 - ETA: 2014
6 improvements to control couldn't push him to C+ and his velocity already sits at A+. Velez seems unlikely to have more than a weak C+ for control even in his prime

NR - 41 - [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=12510217&statsorimps=imps]Orval Pitta[/url] BAL SP - Drafted 5th in 2013 - ETA: 2020
Youth and luck is the strategy with Pitta. He joins the NattyBohs Lites with B-/D+ skills. The D+ control is enough to scare off most teams, but at just 18 years old he has a shot to develop. His upside rests at A+/B- which can be a reliable pitcher or the kind of guy that makes your cringe when he enters a game.

NR - 42 - [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=12510175&statsorimps=imps]Oscar Obradovich[/url] NYN RP - Drafted 6th in 2013 - ETA: 2020
Double O is another off-balance pitcher from this past draft. He's on good footing as a 17 year old, but really needs to focus on his control to be reliable

NR - 43 - [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=12510178&statsorimps=imps]Rupert Sierra[/url] BRO 1B - Drafted 31st in 2013 - ETA: 2015
Sierra does one thing very well: Hit right handed pitching. Everything else is a disaster. That could get him a spot in a platoon or at least a job on the bench. Watch your head, he's got a very low ceiling

NR - 44 - [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=12510212&statsorimps=imps]Levon Clemons[/url] BOS SP - Drafted 10th in 2013 - ETA: 2019
Oddly nicknamed Lefty before the draft, Clemons reverted to his legal name of Levon as he joins the Terrier system. Clemons starts as a weak D+/C+ at 18 years old. That's a recipe for an average starter with a shot to beat that with an extra good year or two. On the flip side, a bad year or two could put Clemons in the back of the bullpen for a short career.

NR - 45 - [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=12510213&statsorimps=imps]Joe Heap[/url] BAL RP - Drafted 21st in 2013 - ETA: 2019
Heap is an extreme split guy at D-/B+. Similar to Pitta, he's young and has plenty of time. Unlike Pitta, his split is more extreme. A realistic cap for Heap is C/A+ - not terrible but not your go-to in a big spot.

48 - 46 - [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=12398251&statsorimps=imps]Oscar Cater[/url] STL 2B - Drafted 14th in 2011 - ETA: 2015
Cater's power is developing, but he's out of time. At 22 years old his only hope is to build that skill vs lefties and hope for the call. He won't hit right handers

NR - 47 - [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=12449621&statsorimps=imps]Brad Lutzke[/url] SF SS - Drafted 33rd in 2012 - ETA: 2020
Drafted in the 3rd round last year then waived, Lutzke is in now the center of attention for a very weak minor league squad. He'd be a prospect if he were 2 years younger but he could carve out a bench job

NR - 48 - [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=12510174&statsorimps=imps]Rich Jones[/url] SF SP - Drafted 59th in 2013 - ETA: 2019
There's a chance, not a big one, that this 4th rounder develops. The Crims will see what happens, but he may end up on waivers if he doesn't have a big first year

Great list as always! It is a good thing (I think) that I like my arms better than the projections, we will see in about a year!

good stuff kahuna! crims gotta have the worst farm system in recent memory. i remember the previous BOS owner emptied the cupboard trying to get Jefferson a ring, that's probably the other contender.

er...what I meant was...if anybody's in the market for the #38 prospect in the game, hit me up!
