Jose Valdez started for the Giants and was tagged for a single by Steve Palica and a two run homer in the first inning by Jessie Sutton, number six for Sutton.
The Giants scored a run in the second inning to narrow the score to 2-1.
Jim Collins (four for four in the game; singles in the 2nd, 4th, 5th and 7th) singled to center, stole second and scored on mickey Akril's double. Pitcher Jose Valdez (3-19 (.158) with one run scored and two runs batted in) singled driving in Akril and a 3-2 Giants lead.
New York threatened again in the 5th inning.
Frank Appleton had a lead off single. Milliard ground to first...Appleton advanced to second. Jim Collins collected single number three in the game driving in Appleton. 4-2 Giants.
New York scored its final run in the sixth. Dick Welch singled to right. Frank Proly doubled him in 6-2 New York.
Jose Valdez went 8.1 innings to push his record to 4-2. Valdez allowed nine hits two earned runs walked one and struck out seven.
Milwaukee 10 Miami 8...Milwaukee is tied with New York in second place.....
Pittsburgh 4 Montreal 2...Pittsburgh lead the league by one game...
Los Angeles 8 Cincinnati 1 in a battle between the seventh and eighth place teams....
