Giants and Miesters tied for second one game behind Pittsburgh

Montreal defeated Pittsburgh 3-1 with Walt Nichol going 7.1 allowing eight hits and one run. Bobo Santiago picked up his 9th save.

Scott Shinselli's fifth inning run scoring single, Bob Mollwitz's solo homerun in the sixth inning and a sacrifice fly by Lou Wells in the eighth inning gave the Maulers two more runs on the like number of hits (8) in the game,.

New York 3 Houston 1

New York also pulled out a 3-1 win for its third straight win. Right hander Ben Wilson gave up one run on eight hits walked five and struck out four for the win (4-2).

Houston scored its only run in the fourth inning when Felix Perlman singled and scored on a ground out by Ferdie Mercer to take a 1-0 lead.

Houston maintained that lead until the Giants rallied for three runs in the 5th inning.

Frank Proly's two out solo homerun tied the game. Jim Collins singled, Danny Milliard and Frank Appleton both doubled with Milliard and Collins scoring to give the Gaints a 3-1 lead that stood up as the final score.

However, Rusty Morley's acquisition of his 8th save was not routine. Morley loaded the bases with no one out on a single by Ed mercer, a walk to Felix Pearlman and an infield single by Eddie Vangilder.

Morley regained a foothold by getting Jimmy Knealy on a short pop up to left field, a key strikeout of Jonah Hendrikson, and a ground out to second by Milt Mulvey to end the game.

Houston also can lament the fact that they left 17 runners on base, left the bases loaded twice, in the fourth and ninth inning and also left two on in four different innings and one on in the other three.
