Charlie Guante (retired)

June 06, 2017 at 11:03PM View BBCode

Charlie Guante won game #300 and #301 today. He is just the eighth member of the 300 win club and first to join since Charlie Johnson of the NY Giants accomplished the feat in 2006...some 81 seasons ago.

Quite an exclusive club.

Wow. 20-8, 2.44, 1.05 WHIP...doesn't make AS team for first time in career. Was looking for #15 appearance.

He's back for another season...took a hit on the declines but he's still A- overall with B+/A splits. His skills are now about what they were after his rookie season.

3rd all-time in wins with 323. Only trailing Eddie Wasem 343 & Charlie Johnson 328.
1st in WHIP 1.03.
2nd in ERA 2.30 to Lex Luther 2.25
16th in strikeouts 3,215.
19th in IP with 4,016 1/3.

Good deal, keep on winning.

Win #329, moves into 2nd place all-time. Will need to win 15 more to claim the #1 slot from Eddie Wasem.

21 total wins this season would do it. Health and a return for one more season would be a more likely scenario.

Charlie Guante won game 162 to finish the season 18-9 and raise his career win total to 341...two behind Eddie Wasem's record of 343.

Guante remains #2 all-time in WHIP and ERA.
He has climbed to #7 in IP with 4,237 2/3 IP.
He is also now #9 in strikeouts with 3,370.

Here's hoping retirement can wait one more year.

#344 in the bag today. All-time win record falls.

The end is near but claiming a record in a league this old is kinda cool. Never had great endurance but he was never injured and never missed a start despite having a D+/C- health rating for almost his entire career.

2.39 career ERA with over 4,300 innings is incredible too. Second all-time, but way more innings than anybody else in the top 10.

Finished his 18th full season 13-13, 3.93 era, 1.23 whip.

Currently 354-126, 2.43 era (2nd), 1.05 whip (2nd), 4,455 ip (5th), 3,523 strikeouts (7th).

Playoff stats: 15-7, 1.71 era, 0.95 whip...

Would be surprised if he makes it back for his OS39 season.

All of the consecutive seasons of 35+ game starts is just as impressive as his other stats

He retired.

Finished as a red letter overall player at an even 76 overall, 67 velocity 85 control. Still good enough to compete but he called it quits.

As OS18 he was drafted second overall with what turned out to be 68 velocity, 53 control. He peaked at 95/91 for the last two years prior to decline after plateauing at 94/91 the four years before that.

Wonder how he would have done on the NYN team with his pitching settings tilting towards more complete games?
