Anything New?

April 20, 2017 at 01:28PM View BBCode

I used to play on SimD about a year ago in the very competitive Pie Traynor League. I had played for over 6 years I believe and enjoyed it, but it started to get stale. Seemed that the guys who run the site were concentrating fully on the football side and absolutely nothing of interest had been done to baseball in a while.

Has that changed? Any new ideas brought in or tweaks made to the engine? Was considering getting back into it.

No responses? That's disconcerting.

LOL seriously? Man, I loved this game and the community that is involved with it, but I feel like the guys who run the site have just completely given up on baseball. Auto-pilot for sure.

There are still challenging leagues available.

? Tony Conigliaro is a Blind League w/a Draft Lottery and 2 rounds of owner drafting, replacing the ABE choices for those rounds.
? One league now runs something called a Wheel Draft. (Forget the name).
? The Jimmie Foxx League - where you buy *two* teams - has a majors/minors concept and is also a blind improvement league.
? Catfish Hunter League has several openings if you haven't tried the free agency/salary wrinkle yet. (I think Barry Zito League has vacancies, as well.)
? 24-Team leagues are usually *extremely* competitive and difficult to go on any extended championship run.
? The Orlando Cepada League is a "step" league where you move from the "minor league level" to the "major league level" based on your W-L record.

There are 2 leagues that have a wheel draft:

Frank Robinson League - 6 GPD, system 5 minors
Billy Williams League - 3 GPD

The wheel draft has eliminated tanking. There are still a few bad teams, but you're not seeing C+ and B- overall players on people's rosters anymore. The playoff chase is super competitive most seasons, with 4-5 teams still in it at the trade deadline.
