I honestly think my player Frank Johnson should have been the Special Teams player of the year. Highest KR average among those nominated by 0.9, almost a full yard, despite his longest kick return only being 50. So he averaged 29.0 per return and was consistent all season. Monty Williams had a 28.1 average that included an awesome return of 101 yards. A return for a touchdown has a ton of merit but it also means that aside from that one return, his average would have been 24.8. Not to take away from that return, but my point is that Johnson was consistently giving me 30 yard returns. Also, take a look at the league leaders in punt returns. Look at who had the least fair catches, indicating tougher punt return situations. Not too important but I really think Johnson was the best returner. Although if Baker had returned punts...

Oh I agree completely with your comment on settings. He returned more kicks from deep in his own territory and still managed to have 0 punt return fumbles. actually, nobody in the entire league fumbled a punt return, according to our stats page

Special Teams means kickers too, anybody remember?

What about that hammerfoot, Duke Thomas, down in Miami, in 1966?

Punt average #1- 47.3 yds. per kick
Return average #3 (#1 of actual punters)- 5.9 yds.
Net Yardage per punt: #1- 45.4 yds.

Would any of you like to have him pinning your opposition's offense back AND/OR stifling the return TOO?

By the way- I did vote. There's 4 guys with 2 votes each.

certainly no problem with what was said but this made me think. The best NFL punter in my memory was Raider Ray Guy. he was awesome, anyone know if he is in the HOF?

I'm pretty sure he's the only punter in canton...there might be a few kickers but I think he's the only punter

Since the year is almost up, I'm just going to pick someone.

I started looking at Kickers and punters, well, because we should.
It came down to these two

Duke Thomas, P, Miami Plague, 60% touchback rate on 92 Kickoffs. 45.4 Net punting average, with a 5.9 yard return average (So low in comparison to many)

Ed McIlhany, K, New England
31/32 FG, only miss was between 40&49 yards, 30/31 XP.

I went with Duke. I liked Ed, but he didn't handle Kickoffs, so while the scoring rate was excellent, the continued Field position that Duke created pushed it over for me.

one person picking someone is totally crap, especially when that player was not even nominated.

IF YOU CAN DO THAT I SHOULD HAVE THE RIGHT TO CHANGE MY VOTE: I voted for Shuman, I NOW CHANGE IT TO FRANK JOHNSON. with 3 votes he should win.

WHat BS. way to ruin my interest.

Something had to be done. Its week 16 and we have 9 votes, with a 4 way tie. You want Frank Johnson, that makes life way easier.

Frank Johnson it is.

My apologies to GrubDwag for taking back my vote on Shumann, but this is much more fair.

Are you serious?
You wanna be bitchy about the Rockpile523's decision and the vote?
Why don't you rag on the 7 teams that found it WAY too much of an effort to even BOTHER to vote?
Week 16... 9 lousy votes.

Grubdawg is doing the heavy lifting, with a lot of help from Rockpile523.
I don't see any other teams busting down the their doors to help out.
It's way easier to just kick back and piss and moan about what they do or don't do, right?

Grubdawg is busting his ass with things like setting up this vote, SIM bowl banner requests, and other stuff to keep this league from turning into just another piece-of-garbage Premium league like the majority of others are.

I throw the "are you serious?" back at you. YOU did not vote until the middle of this season. if you voted when GrubDwag asked you to do there may have not been a problem. If fact GrabDwag made a deadline and YOU ignored it.

I stand by what I said. It is absurd after a full off season and most of this season that 1 person gets to pick ST player of the year, AFTER GrubDwag gave a deadline that you , yourself IGNORED.

Not to mention the player chosen was not even considered until you brought it up when you got around to voting WAY PAST GrubDawg's deadline.

I don't want to see 6 to 7 votes with a 16 team league. I want to see 16 votes. Just take a few minutes and vote for please. I want the MVP's to be elected by the group, not just a few.

Are YOU kidding me?, IRONMEN. I voted when I was asked, I want to do my part. I have every right to bitch when I do my part and it is just thrown out by one individual decision. If some one can just make a completely different decision AFTER what has been voted, then why should those of us few who voted do so again? I will certainly think again before I participate in any more votes.

Then reason This league is great is because you are all passionate owners. It is a little odd that half the league didn't vote. Something to keep an eye on. Still, everyone seems to be active and competitive

Come on guys, lets take a chill pill. Things happen and it usually happens in the past, so just forget it. My fault for not taking charge in breaking the tie. I went to start a new ballot with all the tied votes, but then I pulled a 4/20 and took me hours to write up playoff scenarios.

I will repost a new vote and maybe we can get some more votes and I will add a kicker/punter because they are important in special teams.

Fair enough. It was not a personal thing for me and I do appreciate the work Rockpile523 does for the good of the league. When I believe something I will speak out, it is who I am. It does not mean I do not have respect for those involved. I will challenge; therefore, I expect to be challenged.
