Draft Recap

March 15, 2017 at 12:41AM View BBCode

Quick version...(this is for entertainment purposes only. I know nothing more than anyone else.)

1) NYN - Eddie Drake SP OS19 - Eddie should be a stud, will be the Ace of staff in about 5 years, has a legit shot to be an A/A Starting pitcher. They need talent all over the roster and Drake is a great building block with which to start with.

2) CHA - George Klages SP OS22 - George is a control freak, and will be B+/A or B/A+ type of SP. Should be a solid top end/middle of the rotation guy for years on a rebuilding team.

3) Oak - Bob Moran 3B OS19 - He can hit, and hit and hit. Should be awesome at the plate, slower than a snail, and that might be his biggest detriment to success. He also has range issues, but will have a great arm, can he convert to catcher???

4) Mon - Bruno Harikkala RF OS23 - Bruno is ready to go, should be A+ power vsR, will be A-/A vsL if he does not make A+ PvL. Bruno is also a poor range guy, speed may not make red letter, but he should have plenty of pop. Allows Mon to keep its other guys in the minors, including a couple good pitchers.

5) Phi - Jim Pless SP OS18 - Full year 17 year old, if lucky and converts 6 turns would be an A-/A+, if not be might be some variation of A-/A or B+/A+. He will be a CP eater for 5-6 years to reach full potential. Will pair well with already young pitching depth on the team to make a formidable rotation. (Stephenson - Bannon - Manning)

6) NYA - Red Fanovich RP OS25 - Red is ready to go will be in the majors from the start. He is high in his grades to be a low B+, will he be able to make A+/B+ or will he top out at A/B? New York has an aging Bullpen so the pick makes a lot of sense.

7) ATL - Sam Maranville SP OS20 - Sam a half year extra teen will have 1 and 1/2 years under 20 to convert, and a B- already he should be close to B-/B. If he is lucky he could end up in the A-/A range. In a loaded Minor league system so his development will be in question from the start.

8) Was from Cin - Dory Jacobs RP OS21 - Full year underager and already a B will be a fine addition to the Bullpen- Could be used as a low endurance starter and possible be A+/B+ or A/B+ or A+/B or some variation of the three. Should be ready for the majors in 2 years.

9) Cle - Nellie McMath CF OS21 - The scots take a Mc, go figure no name change needed. McMath should be a vsR killer, is a high range no arm guy. Downside of possibly being a very good vsR platoon guy if vsL does not develop.

10) TB- Brad Smith 1B OS19 - Brad is another vsR dominant bat guy. Brad has serious deficiencies in the field, will need some development there or find a corner OF spot to hide in. TB battled for a playoff spot last year and curiously could have used a big bat that was left on the board, but Smith points towards building the future and you can't pass that up on a team that has some Minor league space.

11) Was - Yukiyasu Nakamura 2B OS31- Yuki is a bomber, will come in right away and play, very good fielder, good speed, excellent power. Should light up the score board on multiple occasions. Should add immediately to a Washington team that missed the playoffs by only 6 games last year.

12) SD - Alex Gutteridge SS OS18 - Might be the pick of the draft, Gutterridge is C+ OS18 and an overall total talent who should develop into a solid hitter both ways with excellent speed and good defense. Quality pickup for a quality team that finished 1 game out of the playoffs last year. This pick should help extend the run in 5 or 6 years.

13) Tor - Dave Northey RF OS19 - Dave is a contact hitting OF with slightly better splits vsL. He joins a deep team that will have to find a spot for him to find some playing time 5 years down the road. But he should be a good one.

14) Mia - Bugs Moriarity RF OS21 - Bugs is a 2 year older version of Northey, a VsL dominant guy but he has a better arm than range with worse health. Miami does have an aging starting OF so adding a guy that can be ready to go in 2-3 years can help to diminish the slide in OF play.

15) Ari - Billy Nagy 3B OS18 - Billy should be a B+/A vsR possibly B+/A+ vsL guy with full development and luck. Ari has an aging roster more so on the pitching side, but Nagy adds some depth to a slightly diminished Minor league system after some trades were made to go try and win one.

16) Det - Luis Cheeves SP OS19 - Luis is a power pitcher, big time endurance with big time power, lacks control. If the control develops he could be a gem, if his control sputters he could be a dud.

Check back in 5 years to see how they did.
