Why is this pitcher not performing better?

You would think he would put up better stats than this being he is A+/A+.

To give you background he started as an F endurance, A/A.

My only explanation could be endurance and overuse related. I was trying to find an explanation of how a pitcher loses effectiveness when tired. But this guy is A+/A+ even when he begins to tire he is better than 95% of the pitchers in this game.

Those are pretty good stats.

The thing is, even guys like this, when tired, are not better than 95% of the pitchers in the game. His performance could be the equivalent of B+/B+ or worse when tired, depending on how many batters he's faced, his energy bars when coming in, etc. In your game log I notice he closed three games in a row recently. That can be taxing.

You also have bad range at 3B and 2B (with the 2B still not fully trained). That can't be helping.

Still, I'd be happy with his performance overall.

He is actually not my pitcher, I would figure a A+ guy would be better. He is actually on my rival and he asked the question and I argued that he was overused and tired. I am really interested in finding out info about the effectiveness drop off from being tired.

I'm not clear on the level of effectiveness when a pitcher's tired. I set my pitchers to get pulled when tired and a runner on first, and I can tell you, they are not as effective sometimes before they're considered tired by ABE. I mean, they'll be on the cusp, give up a hit or two, maybe a run, come to bat the next half inning, then the next half inning give up a walk or worse and finally trip managerial settings for the pull. It's this zone where they're diminished yet not officially recognized as tired.

It's infuriating to see them get hit, but I'm not going to pull them immediately when tired because overall the wins/losses work out better than if they were hooked an inning or two early and wore out my bullpen.

So anyway, if a reliever is tired, or enters a game with 3 or fewer bars, the level of ineffectiveness can compound quickly.

Given that this pitcher still has only D+ endurance and is averaging over 120 innings per year I'd say his stats are fine, A+/A+ doesn't mean 100/100. If he started at the bottom of A/A he would only be at the bottom of A+ and with the low endurance is likely to be pitching with fatigue regularly.

Also relievers stats can be skewed by a few bad outings, if you look at his game log you will see he's only been scored on in 17 games and if you take out the 4 occasions when he gave up runs in less than 1 inning pitched, 7 earned in 1 inning pitched total his ERA drops to 2.57.

A career WHIP of 1.11 is pretty much all-world, even though he is clearly overused. D+ endurance guys can't pitch more than 50-60 innings a year if you keep them rested.

Properly managed D+ pitchers can easily pitch 75+ innings a year, check out Poole, in '72-'73 he pitched 84 & 86 innings with a combined WHIP of 1.08 and an ERA of 2.42 and his endurance is D
