Florida 5 Cubs 1
Florida kept up its recent winning ways taking their fifth consecutive win and second straight for Chicago, in Chicago at Banks Field.
Florida is now 11-9, five games behind first place Pittsburgh.
The second place Cubs dropped three games behind Pittsburgh with the loss.
Russ Ginter (1-3) won for the first time in four decisions going 7.2 innings recording a season high ten strikeouts. Ginter allowed one run on four hits and walked two.
Florida scored two runs in the first inning to give Ginter some breathing room.
In the first inning Chicago starting pitcher Grover Ake walked Roy Bengough and Tom Olson with one out. Ollie Dickerson singled to load the bases.
Jim Hinchman's two out double plated both runs.
Chicago mounted a threat in the bottom of the third. Ake walked and scored on a triple by Todd DeArmound. 2-1.
Buddy Smith hit a two-run homerun in the fourth off Ake and Tom Allen singled in Bengough later in the inning to make the score 5-1 Florida.
Ginter got the win and John Sunday his seventh save.

Arizona 14 Colorado 10
Arizona took this slug fest from Colorado 14-10
March Reinecker got the win in relief (1-0) with two innings of work. He walked two and struck out one.
Heinz Gonzalez hit a two run home run for Colorado in the first inning, his first of the season to give Colorado a 5-4 lead.
Peter Heintzelman hit a two run shot for Arizona in the seventh when Arizona took a 12-5 lead.
Bruce Powell homered in the eighth for Colorado with one on as Colorado narrowed the gap to 12-10.
Jim Matos iced it for Arizona with a two run shot in the ninth to make it a 14-10 game.

Milwaukee 2 Philadelphia 1
Walt Kappel pitched and hit his way to this win for Milwaukee.
Jeff Ingram gave the Milwaukee a 1-0 lead in the first inning with his second of the season.
Philadelphia scored their only run in the fifth inning on an error by center fielder John Ankenman.
Kappel singled in Mike Jackson with the go-ahead run in the Milwaukee seventh inning.
He departed in the eighth with one out in favor of Kevin Heffner who finished the game for his fourth save.

Pittsburgh 6 Montreal 4
First place Pittsburgh handed Montreal a 6-4 defeat behind Len Hogue.
Hogue (4-0) went 8.1 innings allowed three runs on five hits walked one and fanned six.
The Pirates sent nine batters to the plate in the first inning scored four runs on six hits off starter and loser Kevin Leroy.
Sid Drumright singled to start the game and stole second base. Richie Johnson tripled driving in the first run.
Al Bilko singled in Johnson. Bilko was the first out when he was caught stealing.
Sam Machember singled and advanced on Malloy's ground out. Catcher A.J. Musser homered to make the score to 4-0.
Hogue singled to start the second. Drumright's single advanced Hogue to third where he scored on a ground out to second by Bilko. 5-0.
Alberto Martini tripled in a run in the seventh. Jim Malloy who had singled scored.
Hogue allowed a solo home run in the eighth to Mark Burke that cut the Pirates lead to 6-1.
Hogue got the first out of the ninth then surrendered a triple to Angelo King. That was all for him. (8.1 innings 5 hits 3 runs 1 walks 6 strikeouts.) Bobby Lindsay came in and struck out McDonald but gave up a run scoring double to Scott Patterson. Loughlin's singled him in.
Tony Ferguson got the final out for his seventh save.
