One thing I learned from reading this forum is that Speed is one of the most important skills in this game.July 16, 2016 at 02:07PM View BBCode
Interesting theory, but remember that speed has a significant influence on batting averages, not just on base paths.July 16, 2016 at 02:13PM View BBCode
All depends on how the rest of the lineup shakes up but a lot of times for a more contact heavy lowish speed guy i will bat him leadoff as it negates the tons of double plays he would ground into elsewhere. And for a power heavy guy usually 7th.July 16, 2016 at 02:17PM View BBCode
I'd bat him 5th or 6th, unless you don't have a better hitter, then maybe 4th. I don't want him hitting into too many DPs before my cleanup hitter has a chance to hit.July 16, 2016 at 03:03PM View BBCode
I usually bat my slowest guy 8th, unless he is an otherwise very good hitter. I never steal with the pitcher at bat, so I like to put a guy I don't want stealing in the first place in that spot.July 16, 2016 at 09:38PM View BBCode
I usually bat my slowest guy either third or fifth. It's crucial having A+ speed guys at the bottom of the order because it normally takes more hits to get them around the bases rather than having a homer and they can trot around.July 17, 2016 at 01:53AM View BBCode
My lowest-speed hitter's batting leadoff vRHP...B+/A- with B+ speed, not the typical makeup of a lead-off hitter, I know, but the last thing I want is a big fat GIDP.July 17, 2016 at 03:49AM View BBCode

I agree with phenom there (generally). And I also agree with ballmark.July 18, 2016 at 04:20PM View BBCode

In other words, DannyReguero, your theory looks as good as anything else here. Take the advice that resonates most truly with your own sense of the game.
