Rangers 7 Huskies 5

Washington ended Mel Patterson's 22.1 straight scoreless inning streak but with two runs in the fifth inning. Patterson, who got a no-decision on Opening Da,y in a game against the Huskies that Texas won 4-3in eleven innings, went eight innings allowing eight hits and three runs walked won and struck out seven for his third win in four decisions.

The Rangers jumped out in front in the first inning on shortstop Mark Torgeson's first home run of the season. The home run was hit off Buzz Denman (LP 3-1).

Third baseman Doyle Grubb added his first long ball of the year in the third with a man on base to increase the lead to 3-0.

Washington closed the gap to one run in the fifth when the came up with two runs on Rudy Peck's solo home run and Orie Hentgen's two out ruin scoring triple.

Texas added on in the seventh inning by going to their bench.

Denman walked pinch hitter Morrie Peters and hit pinch hitter Rocky Hill with a pitch putting two on and no one out prompting his exit and Ollie Scott was brought in to pitch.

Torgeson greeted him with a double that scored both runners. Grubb followed Torgeson with another double scoring Torgeson and he came in on a two out single by Lane Caffie.

Houston led 7-2 and went on to win 7-5.

Anaheim 3 New York 1

Fourth place Anaheim knocked off the Shacks 3-1 to help out Texas.

Tetsuyo Sadaoka (4-1) gave up five hits and one run over eight innings walked two struck out four and Wayne Abreu (five saves) finished it off for Anaheim.

Anaheim scored two runs in the third inning to break a 1-1 tie. Rob Bush singled home Rob Parker and he scored on Felix Cruz double off losing pitcher (2-2) Matt Susko.
