Games started back up - new change

August 11, 2004 at 04:04PM View BBCode

I have started up beta games again and put in a new change. I have put in a fix for the problem where pitcher's batting stats were showing up incorrectly in DynastyVision. Let me know if you see any problems.

We will be restarting the beta league soon as well - potentially tomorrow. Damaestrio may post more info on that.

I have also put in a backend change that has to do with teams that either don't allocate all their CPs, or have less than 15 minor leaguers. In the past, the code did not exit gracefully from this section when this happened. With the way the new server is setup, I would get an email every time this happens (which means hundreds of emails an hour). I have fixed this hopefully - let me know if you see anything out of the ordinary with coach points.

This didn't work. Will have to spend some more time on it. FYI.

Tyson, Is there any particular perference settings that you would like to see used to test the new restart?

Will the long-term beta be restarting as well? I know one of the things we're trying to gauge there is the evolution of competitive balance and how it's affected by some of the changes. But since the long-term is only through 10 years so far we haven't really gone on long enough to get a decent sense of that.

Then again, I understand that if the changes being incorporated now are significant enough since the start of this long-term beta, then continuing that league for those sorts of testing purposes would be moot. Just wondering.

Okay, I found the problem and fixed it and ran a few games.

The draft code is completely new - so you can test however you like. It looks like next week on this - sorry for continually pushing this back. We should have it ready for Monday. The distribution of talent is completely new for the initial draft - so I would like to see how it plays out over at least 7 seasons or so and see what kinds of effects it will have.

If we run into draft bugs, and they are minor, I may just let the LT league continue forward while the ST league runs a bunch of drafts.

From this do I read that SS1 and SS2 are not going to run--just your established Beta Lgs??

Yes, just the established leagues. Sorry.

From a selfish point of view, I wish you could let the ST Beta league run a few more seasons, too. We managed to rebuild already in KC, getting up to 99 wins in 1956 with two 20-game winners and a 19-game winner all under the age of 28, plus a lineup that scored the second-highest number of runs in the league with no regular over the age of 28. But I understand that we're doing this to help you test the sim, so let's just just say the Kansas City Betaniks were on the verge of a powerhouse when the league went belly-up.
