Baseball is the only sport that the Defense has the ball!
Think about it for a while and it's true. Of course you could say Cricket is another but it is a spin off of baseball or vice versa.

I heard this on one of the sport talk radio shows the other day and made me think a while, but it's true......Baseball is the only sport that the Defense has the ball!

Oh, and you can add softball and kickball to the list with cricket.
Who has the ball in golf???
If anything it just proves that "having the ball" is not terminology that is used for describing the events during a game of baseball. If someone were talking about an ongoing game, they'd say "the Reds are at bat in the top of the 7th" not "the Rockies have the ball in the top of the 7th".

I wouldn't really call it "having the ball" like you would in say NFL, basketball, soccer, hockey, etc. It's not like the hitters can steal the ball or some b.s. If anything, it's the hitters' job to do something with the ball (ie. score runs) when they are up to bat or "have the ball". A pitcher is really just the first line of the defense. Or, think of it this way, a pitcher can strikeout every batter but it doesn't give his team any runs.Oh, and you can add softball and kickball to the list with cricket.
