Draft Grades

Again I found myself reaching to fill roster holes instead of being able to take the best available player. I had 5 goals and filled 3 well and 2 poorly.
Goal 1- Replace ageing RB(need to be able to catch) and improve RB depth.
Pick 22 Billy Adkins (B+ catching) and Pick 44 Boyd McLaughlin. (These 2 were exactly what I feel I needed)
Goal 2- Starting SS and S depth.
Pick 12 Greg Glover and Pick 60 John Jackson (Now Have a red letter defensive player)
Goal 3- Get a T that can both run and pass block.
Pick 76 T.J. Wilson and Pick 108 Hartwell Myles (T.J may become what I need)
Goal 4- Improve DL
Pick 28 Reggie Edwards (Now my best DT)
Goal 5- Get a C to prepare for future use.
Pick 92 Mike Smith ( Doubt he will improve fast enough to use)
I am happy with my first 6 picks and got 4 of the players I had hoped for. Overall grade ... I give myself a B

Charlotte had a much better draft than I could have hoped for. With the ever impending retirement of the greatest QB in league history, I needed to address the QB situation first and foremost and this was a great draft for doing just that. So I conducted my draft with one eye on the future and one on the present to see what I could do about returning to the glory that Babe brought to the team.
Pick 2 - Ray Folston QB - My top ranked QB and in my opinion the best QB in the draft with A- Pot and A+ attitude his poor execution should get better pretty quickly. To top it off, he is agile and fast to be able to escape the pocket if necessary and avoid the sacks. Comes in as the projected starter after Babe.
Pick 21 - Brandon Hetherington QB - Two QB's in the first two rounds is unheard of in the real world, but I traded off my other solid QB to move up a few spots in the draft to secure Folston and needed the security behind center. Brandon is a better Day 1 starter, but his development will be slower so he is projected as the backup (maybe up for trade for the right offer)
Pick 37 - Lynn Rudnick G - With an ever watchful eye on the performance of the offensive line as a young QB can't succeed without protection Rudnick can step in for obvious passing plays and develop for the left side of the line. Not good for the running game, but should be workable in the depth charts.
Pick 53 - Byron Ford CB - Best available at a position that could use some extra depth, Ford has the agility and the discipline to make plays. We will see how he does in the big leagues.
Pick 69 - Tom Noll C - With a center already in place that is obviously better, Noll comes in with 1 purpose in mind. Give my starters some rest. When conditions wane during the game and players get tired, it is always good to have someone to sub in to give the stars a rest
Pick 85 - Charley Tuttle T - Piss Poor execution and lacking in strength and good blocking, not sure that Tuttle will make the roster by the end of the preseason. Has the potential and attitude to grow, but may be too far behind to actually make the cut.
Pick 101 - Jimmy Marshall QB - good execution and not aggressive at all makes him a good back up in the long run. May end up being a journeyman all said and done but quite possibly the best QB ever picked up with a 7th round pick. (could be shipped off to another team for the right price)

1.3.- Zern Goodspeed, G. Steps in as a starter from day 1. Our line was getting really old and needed an infusion. Was my top ranked guy, skills et and need based.
1.10.- Melvin Davis, G. See above. He'll never get much better with the F potential, but he'll hold his own on the right side. With the young Guard we took last year, the interior of the lien is fixed up at this point.
2.19 - John Houle, OLB. Oddly, Had QB, Hetherington as my #3 guy who went 21st, but didn;t think a QB would make the 2nd round, so I have my 2nd best LB. Slots in as my WOLB, taking over for the #10 Sack artist in the league last year. A little youth never hurts His Agility should make him an interesting play.
3.48 - Tom Nowaskey, WR. Great potential, Slow as dirt. Possession guy who should develop. Happy to get him hat late.
4.64 - Vito Chambers, DT. EH, solid in a pinch. Should make the cut, but he's on the verge of being the last guy on the roster.
5.80 - Kevin Gray, DE. Why? I have no idea why he's here. Waiver material.
6.96 - Tim Lapka, CB. May stick around as a 5th CB in a pinch, inactive roster for awhile.
Mr Irrelevant - Cut....
