4th and 17 from the 27 means they need to reach the 10 for a 1st. recovering on the 11 they don't do that. does a muff count as a change of poss? because I kind of think it doesn't. in which case that's what happened.

A muff is a fumble that cant be returned, but it can be recovered by the kicking team.

yes, but does it count as a change of possession? because my recollection is that it doesn't, and if that's the case then the recovery didn't net your team a first down and there's no glitch. if it does count as a change of poss then there's an issue.

It is not a change of possession, so if the offense recovers but doesn't make their necessary line it turns over on downs.Chris
