Oakland took the first game of their series in Baltimore by a score of 2-1 behind eight resurgent innings from Mike Guante. Guante ended a personal three game losing streak in style to gain his 3rd win against 4 losses now.
Allen Hockenberry authored a perfect inning of relief in the 9th to pick up his 13th save.
The 13 saves ties Hockenberry with Philadelphia's Ron Lysander for the league lead. Daniel Chavez 8th inning sacrifice fly provided the winning run.
In 11 innings Oakland posted their 5th straight win 7-6.
Don Dingham started game two and went five innings (9 hits 4 runs 1 walk 5 strikeouts) before giving way to four relievers; Rocky Larocca(1 IP 1 BB), Ellis Hamilton (1 IP 2 Hits 1 Run 2 SO), Allen Hockenberry (1.2 3 Hits 1 Run 1 BB) and rookie Brian Adair (1.1 1 BB) who was the winning pitcher 1-0.
Joe Lahti's 11th inning shot off Herb Markle was the winning blow.
