Draft Recap

I am going to start it off this season. A+ draft for me! I was after a solid WR to spread the field with Houston and I got 3 very solid WR's to take me from limited targets for Babe to a plethora of targets. I struggled last season when Wilson and Figner and Harmon all got injured, and relied heavily on my defense to win games which they did, and my backup RB stepped up to the plate nicely as well. Now I have the players that injuries like that again won't hurt so much.
#16 - Orlando McGee - 22 year old WR is not ideal for my draft preferences, but he is the best WR in the draft so more than thrilled to pick him up at 16. His execution needs some work, but he is fast, he can jump and he is agile with the softest hands around... Huge rookie campaign in store for this young stud.
#32 - Dallas Monroe - A 23 year old WR means his career will be far shorter than it should be and his development will be sorely limited but he is faster than Orlando doesn't jump quite as high and isn't as agile but can still make those tough catches.
#64 - Raleigh Patsy - 21 year old WR with red led potential and attitude. This young stud should develop quite nicely down the road and potentially become one of the great WR's in the league. Piss poor execution and not all that fast, he can still make a lot of the jumps and dodge the tackles so he will make plays of his own.
#80 - Wallace Jackson - 22 year old safety hoping to make a name for himself, he will bring much needed depth to the secondary with his ability to cover both the pass and the run. He needs some execution work and his potential isn't that great so we will see how well he develops
#96 - waived
#112 - Butch Marino - CB with a ceiling, he will need some work to be a value, but for the final pick in the draft, he is definitely a solid player. We will see how much he wants a roster spot.
Picks I liked:
#16 naturally - I still see Orlando Mcgee as the best WR in the draft
#7 Ed Clement - This corner is going to cause fits for opposing QB's
#52 Bobby Kimble - This TE isn't the greatest blocker in the world, but if given the starting time to develop he will be a force in the passing game.
Picks I don't like (keep in mind this is only my opinion and reflects nothing on my thoughts of individuals as coaches)
#4 John Arnold - Absolute bust material for a WR. I can live with the B- hands, just look at Houston Wilson, But the kid can't jump and won't avoid many tackles. This is a strictly catch and tackle player
#23 Bill Kofler - I am sorry, but a QB that isn't accurate is a cannon on a tradesman's ship against a fleet of pirate's.... no potential means he won't get any better.

For the Las Vegas Ruffians
At pick 11 we where really hoping for CB D.H.Hicks, but he was taken at pick 9.
We got DE John Smith who already has taken over as our top DE.
At pick 27 we where expecting to land Orlando McGee but we got a WR that we had ranked a LOT higher in Paul Lewis. Lewis has a lot more potentail than McGee and has a higher overall grade primarely based on what he can do after the catch breaking tackles.
At pick 43 we got a decent Safety in M.Tarver.
In the 7th round we picked up RB Adam Spavital who is young and has good KR skills.
Undrafted but on our radar and since picked up are:
Punter Dwight Wells who takes over as our starting punter.
WR Charlie Jones who has solid KR skills
CB Larry Cotton who never signed a letter of intent, but we where in contact with him several times before the draft.
The pick I liked the most(other than Lewis) was CB Bill Lamana at pick 26. I had him going in the first round.
The pick I didn't like was RB Scott Morris at pick 22. He has no potentail or aggressiveness to speak of.

I would give Nashville a B- in the draft, being up against the salary
cap we had to be careful how we ranked the big money guys
1st- Smith T will become an instant starter in our line
2nd- Henson T, 3rd Everett G, hoping both have a chance to be at
least solid backups in OL
4th- Chura LB, will get a chance as a starter in time
5th- Moran LB, 6th Frazier WR, 7th Davis WR, all will most likely end up on
waiver wire as we improve the depth of team

Going into the draft I wanted to work on either my Oline or D as parts were old and I wanted some depth. Ended up going D, in a BIG way.
1.15 ? Emmett Vairo, CB. A little slow, and a head case, but he can cover. Will be in the rotation, as all the CBs other than existing #2 on the roster are young.
2.26 ? Bill Lamana, CB. Potential, Execution, and on the verge of being something special. Going to start him just to see what happens as my #2 is aging and I?d rather sub him in.
2.31 ? Lloyd Gaffney, RB/KR. Didn?t need either, luxury pick, traded for a future 1st, so that?s a plus.
3.42 ? Mike Harding, SS. Decent skills to build on, don?t need him to start, he?ll develop for a few years.
3.47 ? Tom Phillips, DT. Strong, Decent tackle, bordering on good Run coverage. DTs are a weak spot, he?ll get significant play time.
4.62 ? Eric Workman, OLB. He?ll stick around, has some skills that can be used, head case though.
4.63 ? Primo Gray, DE. See Above
5.79 ? Chad Moss, LB. See Above, potential future starting MLB.
Late Rounds, useless OLine fodder, cut quickly.
