next season is a long time away, but nevertheless - I started planning for it :)
I am in a tight spot CP-wise I will very likely seek to either
(a) acquire 5 CPs for next season, and/or
(b) trade for a few veterans (batters preferred, but I need pitchers too).
The veterans should have excellent mentoring capabilities, would need to step in a starters for a few season (I have a lot of sub-OS28 players, and some mentors in the lineup that are horribly weak and may retire next season anyway) so they would ideally be a few years away from declining. So they don't need to be all-world, but scrubs won't cut it either.
I do have a few young players available that I can't fully develop (e.g. Dave Rogers, Bruce Barker, Pat Spratt) and would like to trade. Also, my draft picks are available. Prime prospects already on my roster are not available though.
Trades for the vets could be done immediately, or agreed on in principle to be carried out between postseason and draft. A trade for CPs would have to wait for next season (unless you want to throw 5 CPs my way to be placed on a position player for this season, but I won't pay a 2nd rounder for that since the season is half over).
In theory, this proposal should be interesting for aging teams starting a rebuild (unload a few old starters, perhaps get a few young chips for the next cycle) or for successful teams (unload a few CPs for something valuable) :)
