Hall of Fame discussion

August 11, 2015 at 10:33PM View BBCode

Ok, we need an open discussion on how we should do this Hall of Fame. It's not really fair that some players will be left out of the discussion simply because we merged leagues. For example there are some players that started their careers in the prior league, but those stats aren't reporting to this new league. What I was thinking is that we can keep a running list of players that we induct into the hall with their full stats. This really only affects the first few people that we induct into the hall. Would like to know some thoughts on this from the group so we can get this going the right way. After we discuss this we will put together something that hopefully everyone is comfortable with. We do have access to the prior leagues so we can see all stats.

I agree, stats from the two previous leagues should be considered for this leagues Hall of Fame, how do we access the two previous leagues again?

I think this should be run as its own league starting from scratch and stats from the other leagues shouldn't be considered. Now I wasn't in any of the other leagues prior to the merge so I don't have a vested interest in any of the players.

Just keep in mind we are probably talking about a handful of players here. Not many make it into the Hall. For all we know it could be none. I haven't really looked at it in detail, but I know there are some players that had a few good years over in the other league. Like Oliver Watson. I would hate to see those stats not count toward his Hall of Fame bid when he retires somewhere down the line.

Pecker, Thank you for taking this on. I was hoping to help out, but I am too busy.

I was not part of the past leagues, but of course their stats should count! It was part of their careers. you take the whole body of work.

It is 1972 in the league. For me none of the stats for these guys started until 1970. The other leagues were into the 2000's. I know its just a game, but those stats to me did not happen.

Maybe we make a rule that they have to play in this current league for a minimum of 3 or 4 years or something. What that will do is eliminate most of the older vets that came over when they were 34 or 35. Just an idea.

It is just my opinion. I knew it wasn't going to be popular, just wanted to voice it. I'll support and vote for the HOF no matter how it is set up.

As far as your idea above, if stats in the older Leagues are considered then I don't think there should be a rule determining the amount of playing time in this league.

Let's just put them up for a vote and see how much support they get. Owners can use accomplishments (or lack of) from the current league as one of the benchmarks. That should sort it out pretty well I think. If the owners want them in the Hall, they'll get there.

An excellent idea.

I would like to pass the old league HOF'er into new league with an asterisk. With the old leagues Name

That way history is maintained.

I'm against using stats from the old leagues.

Ed Colangelo only played 1 mediocre season here in the new league, but would have 601 careers saves if the old league stats were included. You could assemble a final HOF class from each of the old leagues that would include those guys.

I know that doesn't help guys who played 5 seasons back there and then will come up short for HOF here with only 10 seasons of stats. But I think this league should be considered as starting from scratch in 1970.

You're probably not the only one who thinks that way, but again, we should probably just put them up for a vote like any other player and let the vote tally be the deciding factor. Because there are probably other owners who think the exact opposite (I lean toward letting the old vets in, but could really go either way). After all, we didn't start this league from scratch, it's a merger. And chances are if the opinions are split, the players in question won't make the hall anyway.
