how does RP mentoring work?

August 09, 2015 at 05:01PM View BBCode

one of my teams is 77 games into the season right now. my bullpen has 2 A rated mentors. they've combined to appear in 26 games, total of 29 innings. i don't think the RP mentoring has ever fallen below C+. is that really all it takes? seems like it shouldn't be enough.

The original rules for mentoring were that as long as a pitcher appeared once every 7 days his mentor value counted plus there is a bonus to pitcher mentoring from the catcher, based on his mentor score and range as I recall.

There may have been changes since then but I'm not aware of the details, [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/oldforum-viewthread.jsp?tid=109613#pid646764]here[/url] is the original thread regarding the implementation of mentoring .

It depends on the mentoring system, but two A mentors in the bullpen seems like it should easily get you C+.

i think there's more to it than that, they need to pitch sometimes, i'm wondering how often they have to get in there. one of the guys has 6 games, 4.1 innings, so it's safe to say he isn't much of a factor. my starting catcher has C- health and no mentoring, backup has A mentoring. is it all you need to just have 1 red mentor come out of the pen once a week? seems like it should be a little harder than that.

Funny thing about the wiki, I swear there are often changes that I notice.

Just looked and couldn't find anything about them having to pitch every X number of days to boost mentoring, but I know I've read that before.

I think the Catcher's influence on pitchers is more based on range than mentoring, for whatever that's worth.

So from the thread that I linked above:

How many vets will I have to play?

For pitchers, [color=red]if you have one guy that is 32-33 years old in your pen and rotation, you'll probably be fine.[/color]

I often have just one mentor and that will get a C+
