How does Olivares get the win ?

June 12, 2015 at 08:29PM View BBCode

I know the sim doesn't make subjective judgements about a winning pitcher as mlb does in these cases but still how does Olivares get [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/boxscore.jsp?boxscoreid=29745497&cityid=4]this win[/url].

Cleveland are leading when he enters, they never trail, he gets nobody out and yet gets credit for the win. Does ABE just give it to whoever the second pitcher to enter the game is since the starter didn't go five ?

I think so, yes.

Yes. That's the long/short of it.

I think that's how imabundy2 got 60 wins in a season with [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?player=nobody&mode=stats&id=9022203]Jake Sisko[/url] a while back. He'd pull the starter after giving up a hit or whatever then Jake would come in for an inning or two and pile up victories. Of course, Admin has since changed the starter minimums.

Yeah, apparently there are some sim owners who still think that wins are a real statistic with value and they got all butthurt that someone was ruining the record books. Boohoo.

Yeah, well, 60 wins was a joke. If a hitter knocked 150 home runs in a season, it wouldn't be a very realistic baseball sim, would it?

Pretty sure this has been covered ad nauseam already.

The rate stats on the pitcher are/were still within the realm of possible. They are just "wins" it is literally the second most meaningless individual stat that there is (saves is first, if you were wondering).

I like wins, personally. they're like, better than losses, you know? :saint:

Better is true. But they are not more statistically significant. Losses are more meaningful than wins from that perspective.

I don't really care if they're statistically significant or not. i'll take as many of them as I can get.

Wins are certainly the goal but as a statistical measuring stick for individual value they truly suck .

No I think ERA is the most meaningless stat ever devised. All Runs allowed should be tallied and divided by nine not just ones that scored because of errors. Maybe at the MLB level the error isn't as significant but at lower levels HS, college ERA tells you nothing.

How does indicating the number of runs a pitcher concedes that shouldn't have scored make for a better measurement of effectiveness ?
