Newest Member of the 3,000 hit club

The ageless Don Pedi, best player in Baltimore Blue Crab history who would be known as Mr. Blue Crab if he hadn't made his dislike of that nickname perfectly clear, became the 11th member of the 3,000 hit club in DJL history with a second inning single against the Kansas City Monarchs in game 141 of the 1998 season.

The 40 year old Pedi is in the 17th season of his illustrious career, not counting a brief stint in the majors in 1979, and has hinted this could be his last season though no final decision has been made. He has been the starting second baseman for the Crabs for most of those years. In his first 16 seasons he has been an All Star 15 times, won two MVP's, 4 Gold Gloves, and was the Rookie of the Year in 1982. He has led the league in runs, hits, doubles, triples, rbi's, ops, slugging, and batting average at least once, and has 389 HR's (25th all time), 1,584 RBI's (11th), and owns a lifetime batting average of .303 (9th).

Correction, the 3,000th hit came in game 140 against Kansas City, and was a 6th inning double.

Congrats to Pedi on the huge milestone!!! Since I am also from Baltimore, let Don know there is nothing wrong with being called Mr. Blue Crab...

Are you sure he didnt get most of those hits this season against my pitchng? We seem to be very gracious to those in need of inflating their numbers for their next contract
