It should be interesting in our playoff, or at least I hope it will be. I was 10-14 vs. NY this year, so I claim to be the underdog. And he won the Division by 16 games. (Remember that #, we will be coming back to it.) Here is an interesting stat though. I was 101-61 with 826 runs scored and I gave up 557 runs. NY was 117-45 with 826 runs scored and he gave up 561 runs. We scored the same amount of runs during the season and I gave up 4 less than him but he won 16 games more than I did. Hmm, how much did he win the Division by? (16 games, amazing how that # keeps coming up.) If we score as much as they did and give up less runs how did that happen? ABE you owe me some wins! (You can make it up to me in the playoffs if you want to ABE.) No I am not really whining, I am just trying to write an amusing anecdote. Win or lose it's been fun and at least I made the playoffs. NY and I are both playoff bound in our last season in the league; which given the competition we expected from Pittsburgh, was not a certain thing going into the season for sure. So we have a lot to be thankful for. So good luck NY and to all the other playoff teams too. It's been fun! Your friend, BigRich

Congrats Rich. I've always said to myself that it seems like it is better to be the 2nd place team in playoffs in this game. It just seems like that from my experiences in this game that no matter what the record is, these playoffs are pretty even and heavy favorites can lose very easily.

Go get 'em in the WS tomorrow!

Thanks Jaybee5, I just got lucky when I needed to. We might play the same series out 10 times and I bet you would win it more times than I would. I will try to do us proud tomorrow if I can. And my team does appreciate your cheering us on to do so. You have been a gracious winner and a gracious loser.
You can hold your head up high and be very proud of your team this year! Your team not only had the best record during the season in the whole league, but you also had the Cy Young winner. You also had the NL MVP on your team, & all the other 4 top vote getters for the award too. You had 5 NL All Stars, and 3 All Star backups and 1 Golden Glove. An impressive season, like many you have put up for the past few years. All we had were 4 All Star backups and 1 Golden Glove.

The only possible minor weakness I could find preparing for the series was your split numbers. Your team was 3rd in the league vs. RHP and I was 4th, but my team was 8th vs. LHP and yours was 12th. And I looked at the stadiums too and saw yours had a little shorter RF too, so I decided to open up on the road by pitching Left handers against you as much as I could to try to combat your 4 left handed batters if I could.
Streuli hit .336 vs. RHP, Byerly .308, Bonds .280 and Geis .324 during the season. Against LHP they hit .247, .282, .234 & .278 respectively.

That was the plan anyway. Streuli in our playoffs hit .250
Byerly .188, Geis .200 and Bonds .476 So it sort of worked. Bonds hit about the same all year against both sides and did you proud in the playoffs with that .476 mark. I just got lucky and your power advantage that showed all year during the regular season (you were 3rd in the league, I was 4th worst)did not play into this playoff very much. You only out homered me 6-5 in the playoffs, so I got lucky. Now we will see what tomorrow brings.
