Single Game Record for Sacks?

May 19, 2013 at 01:24AM View BBCode

I was wondering what the single game record for sacks was? The Bears recorded 13 sacks against the Mustangs today and I figured that had to be close but I wasn't sure with the recent changes to pass rushing and if some teams are getting more success than others and some teams are just not able to adapt to the changes yet based on weak unathletic O-Lines.

Yeah, pretty sure you have the record there...KC QB must have had a few bruises after that one

I got bored so I looked through some of the numbers. I looked at everyone's sacks allowed to this point and then figured what the rate was for pass chance, not pass attempt. Pass chance is the number of attempts plus sacks since the sacks would have been a pass attempt if no one got there.

SCK SCK/Chance
Chi 12 4.4
SA 23 5.7
Jax 21 6.8
Phx 22 8.1
Bro 28 8.6
Den 32 9
Tor 36 9
LV 40 9.1
Mic 34 9.5
Pro 33 9.5
SD 34 9.6
NY 42 11.1
GB 49 11.4
Was 56 11.5
SF 51 13.1
KC 33 18.1

I attempted to look at average OL ability but that was tough since a lot of use different lines based on formation but on an average of the listed 5 starters, San Antonio had the highest average of PB ability and strength and has the fourth best sacks allowed and second in sack/chance despite being fourth in attempts and third in attempts between 20-39 yards and 40+.

Having the highest average PB score on the starters wasn't always an indication of success. The Bears were 8th and Floridians were 11th yet finished 1st and 3 rd in sacks/chance. Likewise Trojans, Scorpion Kings, and Gold Rush each had top 5 line PB average yet finished in the bottom five in sacks/chance.

Four the of the top five running teams (att/gm) finished in the top five in sack/chance. Ironically the biggest running team KC was the worst in sack/chance at 18%.

The top five passing teams (att/gm) placed much more different. Washington and Green Bay finished in the bottom four, while San Antonio, Toronto, and Las Vegas finshed in the top half of the league.

Anyway bunch of useless information.

**Week 16 of last year**

Looks like San Francisco tied your record with 13 sacks against Washington.

To add more stains from the grass, San Francisco was sacked 9 times!

That has to be a single game record for total sacks with 22!
