New Enhancements and Fixes for Position Switchers

January 24, 2003 at 05:48AM View BBCode

I made a bunch of minor changes tonight:

Added the ability to change minor leaguers positions using coach points. It will take 100 improvements to fully move the players position. But the rate of improvement is based on how far out of position the guy is playing. I invite you all to try this feature out and let me know what you think. As I'm writing this, I'm already getting the urge to tweak the logic (it should be quicker to switch positions in the minors I think for younger players especially). It would be interesting to see a comparison in this area.

While I was at it, I also put the total number of minor leaguers on your team at the bottom of the page (that one's for you Chris).

I also fixed a bug that was failing to report when the 2nd player from the same team received an improvement (nice catch Brad). So before, the improvement was happening but not being reported on the box score.

I fixed a bunch of bugs with the Major League position switchers. The improvements had stopped working when I added age and defensive ability into the equation. Its working again. I also fixed a bug where the player card would show that the guys primary position was also a secondary position (ie a RF had a 2ndary position of RF).

switching and errors

It seems that errors are awfully high for guys playing in different positions now. Until I realized about the RF glitch I had one playing 1B and he dropped everything, despite being an OF with good range. Finding the same problem even with moving an OF to another OF slot, they are making too many errors. Even for an easy LF to RF switch the changes seem awful slow, and switching someone to 1B seems impossible.

Does switching positions affect his offseason improvements at all?

My player's alternative position is now a B-. When does it become his primary position?

I have a guy who is an A at the secondary position. I think Tyson said that once they become an advanced A+, they change positions.

After he reaches A+, he should get it within a few games.

No, it doesn't affect offseason improvements.

Max Niland has officially changed from a SS to a 2B. I'll keep an eye on his SS skills to see how quickly they decline.

Here's a dumb question. Do I need to put coach points on a player in the minors to change his position? If so, it seems fairly useless. Why waste valuable points on guys trying to switch their positions in the minors when you can get them some experience while changing their positions in the majors? Maybe they should be able to switch positions 25% to 50% faster to make it worthwhile.

Good point, I should make it easier to change in the minors.

One advantage is that maybe you are planning for a player to retire and want someone to step right in after he retires.
