Any collectors in here? I'm not looking to start a trading forum here, just some hobby talk.

Semi-retired collector. I have two boys who are very interested in cards (12 and 10). My collection is about 70% baseball, 20% hockey , 9% football and a handful of basketball cards. I really quit buying current product in 1994. I am preparing to attempt to sell a fair amount of my collection, and concentrate on older stuff. First goal is a 1975 and 1976 Reds team set. Just about done with 75, Foster, Rose and 4-5 turds as Sparky called them to finish up.

My two 8 yr old boys are what got me back into it, since about the same time. I have a handful of packs I've bought each year since '96, and my ratio is about 50-30-20 Baseball, Football and then hockey. I'm currently considering buying a box of UD Black Diamond Hockey

We are going to the Reds aravan stop at Nationwide Arena, home of the Blue Jackets next Saturday. Brandon Phillips is going to be in the group that comes to Columbus. The kids are dying to get his autograph. We went last year too, didn't get there soon enough for autos, line was to long. Mesoraco and Tom Browning were there.

My boys are working on Topps 2012 sets still. Can't believe how many chase cards they have now. Kind of kills the thrill of pulling one.

That sounds like fun, and explains the Reds connection. I wish I lived close enough to a major league city to enjoy those types of things.

I've gotten back into it a bit. I used to collect them to get them autographed during spring training when i lived in Florida. Man, I used to really get a bunch of good autographs. Wish I hadn't sold the bulk of my collection. I'm selectively purchasing rookie cards now, looking for guys who might be underpriced. Just bought a few Maddux Topps Traded 1987 rookie cards, mint, for $8 each. As popular as football has become it wouldn't surprise me to see football cards to increase in popularity- might look there next.

You've got the Red Wings, that's better than nothing. When I was a kid, my Dad took me to tons of Columbus Clipper games. Wouldn't be surprised if I saw Cal Ripken when the Wings came to Columbus. Lots of great memories from following the International League as a kid. I remember seeing Deon Sanders when he was a Yankee farmhand in his short stay with the Clipps. Saw him get picked off first, and beat the throw into second, then get himself picked off second and beat the throw into third. Pretty exciting.

I collected autographed cards too, but I got the bulk by mailing the cards to the players. So, no way of knowing for sure which are authentic. It was pretty fun though.

I mailed to some players too. My first one back was Rob Deer. Never could sell those that I got via mail but I'd guess most were legit. A few were stamps or autopens (this was back in the late 80's, early 90's). You're right, a lot of fun and good memories.

Yes we have the Wings, a very good organization, and the IL is a great league, just like the AHL in hockey. I've seen a lot of the old time great Orioles play, which is also a favorite team of mine. (The O's and the Reds) I never got into collecting the autos though.
