Player Improves in Playoffs

November 26, 2012 at 06:22PM View BBCode

Don't know if Major Leagie Player Improves continue in the playoffs but they should.

Undoubtably players tested in the playoffs increase there skills because of the high pressure compitition. Infact players playing during the playoffs should receive a higher number of CP chances with a higher chance of CP success. This would include the vets of 28os and greater.

What do people/Admin think of factoring this in to ABE? (unless it already is)

it's not in there, and it probably shouldn't be. If it was in there, the 4 teams that are already the best will gain further advantage.

It's not but personally I think it should be, the maximum increase would be 8.6% if a team played 14 games in the playoffs and I think that winning teams should be rewarded .

I definitely agree. Playoff experience should be a good thing for a player, however its done.

Ok... submitted the idea into the system: simdynasty.ideascale.com.

It is listed under 'Players development and Retirements' and reads as follows:

Player Improvement (ICs) Should Continue Throughout Playoffs

Major Leaguers playing in the playoffs should continue to increase there skills because of the increased level of effort and competition. At a minimum, the same method used during the regular season (Improvement Chances - ICs) should continue throughout the playoffs.

3rd here - not sure how it isn't included - teams are playing games, no reason to think young players wouldn't improve. I would almost go as far as saying their ICs earned should go up slightly in the playoffs. A reward for the playoff teams that made it with guys that are still developing.

I'm very surprised this has so much support. The system is not designed to be logically flawless - otherwise there'd be no such thing as CPs and players wouldn't have to be in the lineup or pitch once every 8 games to effectively mentor, so I don't fully understand the argument here. The reason playoff teams don't get extra ICs is because it's not fair to the teams that aren't in the playoffs. Maybe everybody should be getting ICs for playing spring training and Venezuelan winter ball too.

There is already a reward for making the playoffs - getting to play in the playoffs.

The thing is, there is no reason why they shouldn't, in fact it should be the opposite, as Buzz stated at the start. Players in the high pressure situation of the playoffs should probably get a slight bonus to ICs earned, as they are playing on the biggest stage with the most on the line. Everyone talks about playoff experience, but the game, as its currently formatted, doesn't regard this at all. Young developing players SHOULD get a slight bonus to playing in the playoffs, even if that means just getting a couple extra ICs for the games played, regardless of how improtant those games are (which, in my book, should count for MORE ICs earned then the regular season)

Paul, if players get improvement chances for every regular season game they play, why would they not improve in playoff games???

Because 12 teams don't make the playoffs. It's not fair for only a quarter of the league to benefit. And it would probably turn off a lot of people to see the top teams getting even better.

I know that logically they should improve because they're still playing, but my point was that the whole improvement system is not based on logic.

If the other 12 teams can't make the playoffs because the 4 playoff teams' players get another 2-7 IC's, then they should quit SimD forever.

Noticed that in IdeaScale.com theres already a suggestion which seems to be like this threads proposal... listed as 'Playoff ICs' under 'Player Development and Retirement'

The suggestion has 10 votes, so if you feel strongly one way or the other about it do vote.

(Am going to have Admin take away my suggestion since its a duplicate)

Agree with this. At least make it an option so leagues can choose to have it or not.
