S.O.S.

Fernando Navaro goes down with injured left leg putting him out 5-6 weeks. The injury is just the latest of bad news for the Express, last nights extra inning loss made it 14 of their last 16. After a promising year last year this years miserable start has most shaking their heads. First it was shaky starting pitching, now the offense has been mired in a 2 week slump that has boasted more than a few players in the starting line up with batting avgs in the low .200's and lower! The front office is in a tough position as Detroit's minor league prospects are still not ready for major league action and are in a tough scenario to pull off a blockbuster trade since parting with any of their stars will net them little in return and the front office has made a concrete stand on trading any of their minor league prospects. Their prized jewel Walter Spahn who was brought up at the the tender age of 20 last year got off to a 3-37 start this year. Although he has produced since then is still batting .221 But the blame should not be put on his shoulders with the clubs other
veterans such as Cris Moore, Fred Archdechon, Jesse valdez getting off to their usual slow starts and last years rookie stand out Red Franco also following suit with a .214 avg compiled with the fact that SP Schienblum and McMahan are a combined 2-11 with era's of over 5.00
This maybe a case where the front office and manager are not to blame. Last season Schienblum most of the season pitched as one the top starters in all of HWL.That was not supposed to be a fluke since he has the talent and is 2nd in AL in k's shows that much at least. But Detroit is in a tough postion, do you wait for the slumps to be over or try to make blockbuster trade and can you can get value for them come the deadline? Then bring up some of the supposed prospects? Or try and swap for other under perfoming stars? Guess we will have to wait and see how it plays out, but time is running out if not already and 2002 is still a long ways!:puzzled:
