In the wee hours of the morning the day after the WS, the offseason runs at 4:54am, then the draft just 4 hours later. I liked 7 players in the draft, so I thought I'd try to deal for the 7th pick, only there was a 3 way tie for 6th-8th, so I didn't know who had it. I figured it was all because these speed leagues want to get going so fast on to the next season, but then the next day (today) the season still hadn't started.
The draft should be pushed back a day. Any reasons why it shouldn't?

I don't know if it's like this in all speed leagues, but the one I'm currently in, the offseason scheduling should be altered. I know what your saying but that's what makes it a "speed league". Usually when I'm in your situation I make all my deals during the 2 playoff days.

In the TWL 18gpd league, the offeseason runs at 6am EST and the draft at 4:30pm EST.

I don't think it would affect the "speed" of the league if the schedule of the games didn't change.

boston, in the situation i described, it was near-impossible to even try to make the deal i wanted, since i didn't know who was going to have the asset i was looking for until 4 hours before it was gone forever - and that's only if i was awake at 5 in the morning.I don't think it would affect the "speed" of the league if the schedule of the games didn't change.

I agree. It would be nice in a lot of these leagues to see the offseason run earlier is there any we can't run it almost immediately after game 7 of the world series and the drafts pushed back later. Is there any reason we can't run the offseason almost immediately after game 7 of the world series? (In some of my leagues I'd wake up at 4 am or something to check the waiver wire for anything useful. Not really any reason for that). Nothing goes on the rest of the day anyways, so why not draft closer to 1 or 2 pm? Obviously these are really discussions that should be had for each league, but I do agree.[Edited on 12-10-2012 by jchoopz]

Pause days between the offseason and the draft is a league setting; I believe most speed leagues have opted to not have pause days, but you are welcome to start a discussion in your leagues about adding one.Chris

There is really not much activity between the end of the WS and the OS so a gap between those events seems less important.

I think the easiest solution would be to have the off season run right after the World Series ended and then leave at least 12 hours between the OS and the amateur draft.There is really not much activity between the end of the WS and the OS so a gap between those events seems less important.

i think there'd be a flaw in running the offseason right after the world series. You'd already see (or not see) the World Champion thing at the top, ruining the drama.

ah, didnt know it was league choice. I'm not even in any speed leagues outside of chaperonery anyway.i think there'd be a flaw in running the offseason right after the world series. You'd already see (or not see) the World Champion thing at the top, ruining the drama.

i can never get over the fact that some folks watch those little blips on dynastyvision. its quite awesome.

I can't imagine it would be too difficult to code the banners to display after the draft if this was desired.

I am in the JSL and our draft runs after 10pm and our first game is 8:51 the next morning. That is not really all that great either.

I think it is just even simpler than all this. The OS can still run overnight but then just have the drafts run between 2pm and 5pm. This will give enough time to make deals between the OS and the Draft and also enough time to set your lineup, adjust cps, conduct more trades, etc before the next day when the season starts.I am in the JSL and our draft runs after 10pm and our first game is 8:51 the next morning.
